Catherine's POV

"So what do you say?" he asked expectantly.

"I mean, that's a good idea. But I don't want to be a burden," I whispered the last part sadly.

"You know, you won't be a burden," he argued.

"So do you agree?" he asked, referring to the option he gave.

He said I should go away with him to his pack and live there. He said he would talk to his Alpha, and he was confident the Alpha would let me join them as part of their pack.

"Fine. I will. But what if my Alpha doesn't let me leave?" I asked.

"Whoever said anything about asking permission?" he smirked evilly.

"You want me to run away without anyone knowing?" I asked, shocked and a little frightened.

"Yeah, technically it will be like that in front of your pack, so you don't have to be in contact with them," he said, still grinning, which made me crack a small smile, though I was nervous.

I didn't know if I would be able to sneak away without getting caught.

I took a deep breath before saying, "Fine. I'm in. I hope I don't regret this. If I get caught, it's on you." I pouted at him.

"Aww... thank you. You made me happy by agreeing. I promise you won't regret anything. And you won't get caught," he said, smirking.

"What do you want me to do?" I asked.

He explained the plan to me while we walked back toward the pack house.

As soon as the pack house came into sight, I bid farewell to him for the time being.

"I have to make dinner," I said and walked away, but not before hugging him and thanking him for everything.

He followed slowly behind me, making sure I didn't get attacked by any of my pack members. How thoughtful. I smiled at him once more and went inside.

"Where were you?" Jack, my brother, demanded as soon as I stepped inside.

"I went for a walk," I stuttered, not wanting to anger him.

"It's good that Brandon is not here, or else he would have handled you for your tardiness. Since I am in a good mood, I am letting you go," he shouted at me, and my tears broke.

I started sobbing and hiccuping. With trembling hands, I wiped my tears furiously, thanking Chase for suggesting that I leave. I didn't think I could handle any more of his behavior.

I began to doubt — was he even my blood?

"Why are you still standing there?" he barked, roughly pulling my arms.

"I'm sorry. I'll get started," I muttered and pulled away, but his hold on me was tight, and I could already see bruises forming.

After a moment, he shoved me toward the kitchen. I looked up to see his face, and what surprised me was an expression that said he was hurt. But that couldn't be right. Why would he feel hurt for me? He doesn't care for me. Maybe it was my imagination.

I pushed the thought aside and went to the kitchen to start dinner before I got scolded for being late.

"Catherine, everyone has arrived. Bring the food," my brother shouted, surprising me — he never called my name ever since the pack labelled me an omega, the lowest rank.

"Just give me a minute," I mumbled.

He nodded and left the kitchen, and the other omegas came in. They were kind of above me in rank, but they were still treated like dirt.
