7. Life goes on

"I am so tired" Ethan groaned beside me.

"I know right. Damn you girl, for making us work so hard" Jane complained, laying down on the floor.

"Not my fault. I was trained for that" I defended.

"But still" Ethan whined.

I hit him on the back of his, which made him groan and suddenly he had his head on my lap.

I shook my head at him. He is such a baby.

I started massaging his scalp and I heard him sigh.

"Oh my Moon Goddess, you have such magical hands. Keep doing that" he encouraged me.

I then started talking to Jane about our shopping trip which we planned for this weekend. It finally turned where everyone started teasing Ethan, because once he accidentally ended up asking a pregnant woman how sundress would look at her, mistaking it for me. The pregnant woman then started hitting him with her handbag.

"That was lit" Finn stuttered in between his laughs.

"I wish I was there at the moment. I would have recorded it and blackmailed him for things" he explained still laughing at Ethan.

"Jane, where is Chase?" I asked her, as I looked around and noticed that Chase was the only one missing.

"I think he went to talk with the Alpha" she replied and continued playing on her phone.

Just then Chase came in with a sour expression on his face. I quickly pushed Ethan out of my lap.

"What the hell woman?" he cursed, groaning in pain.

"Get up" I demanded, which he did.

"What happened?" I asked, looking at Chase.

"Alpha has asked for all of you" he muttered in his serious Beta voice.

"Is everything alright?" I asked with concern. 

"Just go," he said and went to Jane and pulled her aside.

I didn't waste much time and rushed towards dad's office before anyone else.

I knocked on the door and waited patiently until he gave the signal.

"Come in" I heard his faint voice.

I opened the door and entered the office closing the door behind me.

I noticed that he was gloomy and was lost in his thoughts.

I walked slowly towards him and stood in front of him.

"What is it, dad?" I asked softly.

He got up from his chair and walked towards me and kissed my forehead pulling me into a hug.

Right then, mom came in and joined the hug.

"What's going on here?" I heard Ethan's voice.

Nothing, just a family reunion" I retorted pulling out of the hug but dad kept his hold on mom.

"Alpha, you called?" Ethan asked dad ignoring my comment.

"Where are the others?" dad asked noticing that the rest of them haven't arrived yet.

"We are here" came the voice of Jane.

She was held by Chase, his arms around her waist. He had a very serious face as he held her close to him, afraid she would disappear.

I raised my eyebrows at her in a questioning manner. To which she mouthed 'later'. I nodded at her.

"Well, Alex called" Dad broke the silence.

"Really? What did he say? Forget that, when is he coming home?" mom asked excitedly.

"About that, he said needs more time. He promised he would come to visit us sometime"

Mom walked up to dad and held him by his shoulders, slightly massaging, to make him calm down.

"It's okay. We need to respect his wishes. Let him come home when he feels like it" mom consoled him.

"She's right dad. You told me to take time, now you should give him some time too. Don't you think, it's only fair he gets treated the same" I said, my thoughts going back to my past.

"I am sorry. I didn't think through. I can understand the pain of losing your mate can break you to the extent, you'll have no hope for living. Yet he is. So it is only right, we give him his own time to come back to us. I will make sure to let him know that he can do as he wishes" dad smiled at me, signaling me to go to him.

As soon as I reached him, he pulled me into a hug and mom joined us.

"He is still not over it. Is he?" Jane asked sobbing quietly.

"Well, can you imagine your life without Chase? No right. So yes, he is still not over it. So get over the fact that he is going to need some time to get his nerves back" Ethan snapped at Jane, making Jane sob loudly, resulting in Chase getting angry.

His wolf was on the edge. He growled at Ethan, considering him as a threat as his mate was crying. So Chase lost to his wolf, went barring his teeth at Ethan, growling and snapping his teeth in anger, only to be held back by Joseph.

"Ethan, out now," I told making him listen to me.

I knew he was upset but right now, I had to make sure, Chase and Ethan didn't hurt each other, out of their stupidity, later only to regret their actions. Not on my watch. I decided.

I shifted my gaze to Chase, feeling a heaviness in my heart. I was going to demand him, but dad beat me to it"Chase snap out of it. He is your friend and brother. He would never intentionally hurt your mate" dad tried reasoning with him.

"Back down or I will make you," Dad said in his Alpha voice, making Chase and every other person in this room, bow their heads in submission, except for mom and me. Mom, because she was his mate and me, obviously because I haven't shifted. 

Chase soon rushed out of the room, slamming the door shut. I did the only thing that came to my mind.
