Brooke giggled excitedly and Y/N fought the urge to slap her own sister. This entire situation was about to get awkward and she couldn't even feel it. Y/N was the person Tracy was trying to move on from and funnily enough, she was still the person she was set up with to have a "blind date."
"Wow," Brooke said in amusement, clutching on Y/N's arm. "It's a small world, isn't it?"
"Well, should we skip the formalities, then?" Natasha asked jokingly.
"I thought you'd never ask." Brooke laughed.
They all sat down as Brooke gushed about her life in Los Angeles, Chris chiming in every once in a while. Brooke and Natasha opted to have Y/N sitting next to Tracy and both didn't have a choice but to obey. Their orders were quick to come but the stories went by slowly, Natasha making sure that Y/N and Tracy spend their time getting to know each other in depth.
"Just to be clear, I didn't agree to be here tonight," Tracy said softly so only the two of them can hear. "And whatever your sister said—the reason why Natasha set this up—it isn't true."
Y/N put up a smirk, slicing her perfectly grilled steak smoothly. "Why don't you just tell me about this crush who broke your heart?"
Y/N knew it was bound to be awkward, but that doesn't mean she wouldn't fight it. Besides, Tracy was a good friend and she wasn't pushing herself to Y/N—which was good. Y/N still wanted her as a friend despite her complicated feelings for her.
"I think the perfect word to describe her is . . . jerk." Tracy laughed at Y/N's reaction. "Everyone likes her but she goes chasing this green-eyed girl for some reason. If you disagree with her, she'd beat you into pulp. She managed to send guys from our football team to the hospital, broken bones, ruined beautiful faces, made girls shed tears, and broke people's hearts. But there's one thing I know for sure. She's scared of two things—failing and falling."
"Does she own a charming face as well?" Y/N teased, making Tracy nod as she smiled. Y/N forced herself not to think about the last thing she said.
"She does, and a witty mind. She gets persistent at times and it could be annoying but her ocean-like eyes will make you forget about that."
Y/N couldn't take the guilt anymore and she let the corners of her mouth drop. Tracy was inches away from her and she could feel her pain. How could she like her that much?
"But she's a jerk," Y/N concluded as if they weren't talking about her. "She broke your heart."
"It wasn't her fault that she couldn't reciprocate." Tracy chuckled awkwardly, keeping her eyes on her food even if Y/N have been waiting for her to look at her since they began talking. "And it was just a stupid crush anyway."
Y/N was never the one to make the best decision when it comes to comforting someone but she knew a few things. "Do you want to get ice cream after this?"
Tracy looked at her uncertainly, as if she was crazy. She shook her head when she realized Y/N was being serious. "Why do you want to get ice cream with me after this?"
"For dessert."
"They have desserts here."
"Don't make it harder for me, Trace," Y/N said lightheartedly. "It's for being a jerk to you."
"I was only kidding about that."
"I know but since halloween we haven't been the same. I'm not that dumb to realize that there's something that changed."
"Nothing changed, Y/N," Tracy assured her. "You're being ridiculous. The reason why we haven't been the same is because I'm spending more time in practice. Football, remember? You're the one who signed me up for that."
