Mia's POV

Clearing my throat, I picked up and greeted the person in my most professional tone.

"Miss Vance?"

Immediately I recognized that feminine voice.

"Mrs. Reynolds," I said her name in a normal tone. "How are you?"

"I'm well, thank you for asking," she answered me, her qualm voice coming off apprehensively. "Your father would like to have a word."

"Just one?" I tried to lighten my mood at the thought of meeting my father.

"Mia," the haughty man in his leather chair said as I closed the door behind me. "Please take a seat."

I did as he offered, the awkwardness slowly building between daughter and father. What did he have to say to me anyway?

"Mrs. Reynolds called to say you needed to have a word with me?" I mentioned, hoping he would get straight to the point and skip all the small talk.

"Yes, do you perhaps remember Mr. Yokozuna?" The Japanese gentleman who was in London a few days ago, it'd be quite hard to miss. I nodded at his question so that he could proceed. "Well, we're finalizing an agreement with his company, sort of like a negotiation, and you're going to have to be there."

"Okay," I muttered, unsure of the reason why I had to be there. Out of respect, I suppose? "What would I have to do?"

"Represent Vance Corps, talk to their board members, sign a few papers, pose for pictures. Pretty much smile and be polite. Japanese etiquette will be very important so look that up."

Mentally jotting every suggestion onto a notepad in my head, I began to feel nervousness kick in. This would be my first time actually doing something like this - getting out there and physically interacting to intimidating business peoples who actually know what they're doing and talking about. It seemed like a challenge but one I would have to face sooner or later. Besides, this network of our companies could really benefit us, according to my father.

"Sounds fun." I guess.

"Great," the old man applauded. "You fly out on the 27th."

"Wait, hold on. Fly out?"

"Yeah, the meeting's in Tokyo," he told me. "You don't expect to drive there do you?"

"Tokyo? You want me to go there, to Tokyo, by myself," I gulped at the thought. "I don't think I'm prepared for that.."

"Juliana will go with you, besides I think it's a perfect way for you to gain more experience."

The name of my friend coming from my dad's mouth was oddly unsettling. I've been so concumed with my thoughts of Zayn that I totally forgot that my father had first handedly made Juliana my assistant because of what ... he planned.

"Why did you make Juliana my assistant?" I asked, narrowing my eyes at him, holding back the rage that suddenly aspired.

"I was wondering when you'd bring that up," he sighed through his nose, his lips turning into a frown. "I thought it'd be easier to adjust to someone you knew rather than someone new. How's her son doing by the way? I've been meaning to send a care package."
