Chapter 75
Mia's POV
A throbbing headache was my morning reward as I groaned in bed, sitting up to see the back of Winnie's head sitting in the couch straight ahead.
"Finally, you're up," she called out, not turning her head back.
"What time is it?" My morning voice was definitely not an attractive one today.
"It's half past eleven."
I moved off the bed and ambled across the room, keeping a hand on my head so that I could balance my walking.
"Oh my gosh," I suddenly remembered. "The press conference!"
"Has been rescheduled for Saturday,"' she finished my sentence, her eyes never leaving the newspaper she was reading. Who still reads those today?
I wasn't going to lie, that came as a relief.
"Is that a good thing?" I asked her. She looked rather irritated this sunny morning.
"It's a good thing, I suppose. People are wondering why but we told them you caught a fever .. In the time being, you will be working here."
"What?"
"Father's orders."
Orders? More like punishment.
"Why? Just because I got drunk and pushed the conference to a later time? That's unreasonable," I told her.
"No, I think it's very reasonable. It's a start for your training. You'll start at the very bottom and work your way up. Every day for the next five days, you are going to be taught five different tasks," she placed the newspaper on the coffee table in front of her and got up from the couch to sling her purse over her shoulder.
"You're teasing right."
"You know I never joke when it comes to the company Mia."
"But yesterday you said--"
"No buts," she interrupted. "You are going to do this. All your objections are going to be for waste."
She headed over to the door and turned around to give me a small grin.
"Where are you going?"
"Back home to see my son but don't worry. I'll be here for your commencement. Have fun!" She mocked me before she left.
Oh joy. Why was I surprised about this. My father probably planned all of this to happen.
Well, I guess it would keep my mind off of Zayn for a while. Thinking about him, thinking about his reaction to his mother's words would bother me this whole week. Work would be the perfect preoccupation to halt my sulking.
***
Sunday was over in the blink of an eye. I didn't do anything the whole day. I literally stayed in my hotel room, keeping myself locked up. The most exciting part of my day was probably ordering room service. How pathetic was that.
Monday. My first day of "training".
There was a knock at my door and when I answered, a small elderly woman in one of those ugly navy uniforms smiled at me.
"Good morning, Miss Mia. You ready for your training?"
Was this a dream? Please tell me this was some nightmare I was having.
"Uh, yeah," I yawned obnoxiously.
"Okay great!" She exclaimed, pushing a set of that same hideous uniform over to me. "My name is Rosie but people like to call me Grams around here. Change into that and we'll start right away."
