Chapter 66

Mia's POV

"This, Soph, is my friend, Mia Vance," Perrie introduced me and her friend, Soph extended her slender arm out.

"It's nice to meet you, Mia. I'm Sophia but you can call me Soph," she smiled and I did the same, shaking her hand. Why did her name ring a bell?

"You too."

"Were you planning on going somewhere, Perrie?" The tall brunette asked.

"Um, nowhere," she answered, her icy blue eyes never breaking contact with mine, an amused look on her face. "Can you give us some alone time, Soph? We have a lot of catching up to do."

"Sure. It's nice meeting you, Mia," the pretty brunette told me before scurrying off. She looked like a model too. All these people here did. I do not belong here.

"Come in," Perrie's voice was strangely .. inviting. She motioned me inside and led to the lovely living room of the Tomlinson's. It looked like anybody else's home - comfy, everything in array, nothing peculiar that Perrie could murder me with.

"So..how've you been?" She asked me once she sat herself on one of the linen covered love seats. She still looked the same - white blonde hair, her lively appearance, in other words, a goddess.

Why would she even ask me such a simple question. She should be shoving me around, hounding on top of me, strangling me to my death for stealing the love of her life.

"Well, and you..how've you been?"

"Busy..after today, I'm going to Paris to see Jade."

"Oh. Paris." I didn't know what to say to that. I knew I should apologize but why couldn't I say it. There's just no good transition. This was all to civil for me.

"You're Zayn's date, right?" She looked almost as if she didn't even want to hear my answer and I didn't have the heart to confirm her suspicion. "It's pretty obvious, isn't it? Why else would you be here?," she sighed heavily. "Mia, I want to clear some things between us."

"Yeah -- I do too..." This was why I wasn't good at confrontations. I became nervous and awkward, words were difficult to articulate.

"I was really angry at you for taking Zayn away from me," she started.

"And I can understand if you're still mad at me for that," I interrupted her.

"No, you see, you didn't take him away from me. If he really loved me, he wouldn't have felt something for you. Besides, I can't be mad forever. It's not healthy to hold a grudge for very long. And trust me, I didn't hate you for very long. Zayn and I, well, I mostly, lost feelings for him first. That's what distance does to ya. I lost sight of what we wanted to be, of the things we wanted to do together," she looked at me, her eyes regaining a hint of coldness. "But just because I've let this go, doesn't mean we are friends anymore."

"I understand," I gulped back the lump in my throat. Of course we couldn't be friends anymore. It wouldn't be right. It would be awkward and taboo.

"You know about what I wanted Zayn to do to you?"

"Yeah, I do know."

You wanted him to play me. You wanted him to break my heart after he made me fall in love with him.

"I'm sorry you had to figure out that way. You know it was just out of impulse and I was again angry.."

"You don't have to explain yourself, Perrie," I assured her. "I'm the one who should be sorry."

She thought for a but before responding.

"But it's been three years, your apology is kinda late."
