Chapter 97

Mia's POV

"You look absolutely stunning, Juliana," I said to my assistant. Her floor lengthed gown was a light shade of green, matching her pale skin tone perfectly. Her thick, brown hair was tied up neatly into an updo.

"Thank you," she beamed. "But not as much as you. I will not be the contemptuous assistant who overshadows her boss's company's party."

"Who's watching Ames?" I asked, changing the subject, as she studied herself in the bathroom mirror.

"Tyler. He's been such a doll around Ames. He's always visiting when he's not working. I don't know how I would do without his help."

I still hadn't gotten used to the idea that they were an actual couple. It was weird. The last time I left them, Juliana was still engaged to Wentworth. And Ty, well, he was my friend.

"He wonders about you," Juliana prevented my thoughts. "Tyler does."

"He's an actor, Juliana," I reminded her. "He fooled me into thinking I could trust him."

"Yeah, but his story was true. He really did lose his wife and child in that accident. Your father wouldn't hire just anybody to help you considering what you went through."

"Nonetheless, I'm not ready to see him."

She slightly rolled her eyes and refocused on herself in the large mirror, reapplying her red lipstick.

"How's Zayn's sister doing?"

Juliana's question about Waliyha brought me back to the morning, two days ago, after her surgery.

Harry and Niall both sat on the couch, both eyes still closed from sleep with Harry's head resting on Niall's shoulder.

I was still sitting on the windowsill looking at the sunrise when I heard a rustling from the direction of the bed.

"Mia," a weak voice called. "You're still awake."

My eyes wandered to the sound finding Wali's eyes slightly open. Quickly and quietly, I jumped off the little ledge and made my way to her other side.

"Hey," I softly whispered to her. I had an urge to rub her dark hair away like an older sister would but I fight it. "How are you feeling?"

"Nauseous," she winced while raising herself to sit up. "And hungry."

"You can't eat just yet," I reminded. "Only ice chips. Did you want me to get you some?"
