Maybe if we were
special friends
that we could feel
a little normal again.
I knew
we would never
get together again,
but my heart still
dreamt,
and I still lived
a lie.
I have to sneak out
to see you
because I'm not allowed
and I felt that if
anyone knew,
my short bursts
of happiness would fade,
so I don't tell anyone.
For a while
my heart beats
normally as it should,
but when we are apart,
it skips a couple beats
and pounds heavily
against my chest.
I'll keep this charade
going for a little longer,
just until my heart
finds someone else.
