If you ever start to feel alone,
I hope that you remember
that I used to be your light and that
I was your stars in the darkest of nights,
because I've never wanted you to go a day
without any light in your life.
I hope you remember my big brown eyes
staring inside of you
when you look in the mirror
to brush your teeth
and see nothing but me
in your reflection.
When there is silence in the room
I hope you hear all the poetry
that I've written for you
and see the carvings of my words
glistening on your walls
and eating up every last bit of empty space
that you thought you had.
If you ever think about me
I hope you think about
everything that you decided to throw away,
because when I think about you,
I think about the chances that I lost
and the heart that I gave you
is now twisted and wrung up,
hanging limply on your doorknob
because you don't know where else to put it.
