quite good looking you are
they said
maybe if your skin colour
was ten shades lighter
you would be prettier

so i went to the nearest dermatologist and got my skin injected to be the colour clouds. it was painful but they thought i was pretty. definitely worth it.

quite pretty you are
they said
starve yourself for a few more days
you will be more beautiful

so i stopped eating, i was taken to the hospital twice but i still refused to eat. screw health anyways, i needed them to call me beautiful.

quite beautiful you are
they said
just do something about your nose
and those lips need to be more full
then you'll be even prettier

so i spent thousands to have a nose and a pair of lips which didn't flatter my facial structure. i didn't look anything like myself but that was okay, they thought i was gorgeous.

quite gorgeous you are
they said
but in order to be perfect
get rid of all the hair on your body
it's disgusting

so i went through treatments and got every strand of hair on my body removed, ensuring that it would never grow back.

am i perfect now?
i had done everything they had told me to do

we don't like how pale your skin is
you're way too thin
your lips don't suit you,
why on earth did you get them filled
they said

love yourself
they said
how hard can it be
they said

and that's when i broke down
tears gushing like a waterfall
it was at that time i decided

my body
was not something
for them to look at and decide
whether it was worthy of love or not.

did anyone tell you how beautiful you look today? :)

there is so much more i wanted to highlight in this poem but was unable to do so. body hair is beautiful, shave it if you want to, keep it if you want to. people shouldn't dictate your choices, do what makes you h a p p y.

please vote if you liked this one and drop a comment, i would really appreciate it.

question of the day: do you have this book added in your libraries?
