falling leaves

people are not like autumn leaves
they don't look pretty when they fall
but there was this one time i fell for him
and it was magnificent

everyday, i kept falling
deeper and deeper
and this one time
he wasn't there to catch me

it was never like the movies
there was no background music that would make the heartbreak less painful
or like the books
in which you could easily skip to the end where everyone lives happily ever after

i realized that loving is more dangerous
than a thousand sharpened swords
because no one would willingly
let a sword stab them in the stomach

but we invite love and then complain
about the wounds it left
not ready to heal them just yet
i am not ready to let go of him just yet

they were right
