I walked across the main campus lot, following the winding sidewalk as I headed to my first class. Despite my college being in the heart of the city, the big opening between the four main buildings was beautiful.
It had large patches of fresh, green grass where large trees stood tall, and a small garden with beautiful flowers in the far corner. There were little benches scattered around and a small pond in the center of one of the grass patches where little coy fish swam. I loved the touch of nature they added to this place. It gave off a nice, calming vibe for me.
Andy shot me a text saying he saved me a seat. I had a few minutes to spare but I was still hurrying myself. At the crack of dawn, all of the freshman poured into the main gym where we sat down and heard the two-hour long introduction to the school. They then separated us by male and female, and sent us to different rooms where they talked about the sports and activities we could all partake in.
I told Andy I'd meet him afterwards, however I forgot my laptop back in the dorm. I opened the large brown door and walked into the lecture hall, holding my books against my chest with my bag slung over my shoulders. I rounded the corner and felt my anxiety shoot high as I saw the hundreds of seats all lined up high. It went about nine or ten rows high, making me swallow hard.
I peered through the crowd and found Andy sitting in the very top corner. Andy noticed me and waved his hand high, and I shot him a glare.
I told you to sit close. I thought.
I don't like people. He shot back.
But I can't fucking hear him then!
I could see Andy smirk as he tapped his ear, and although I couldn't make it out, I could already tell he was wiggling his eyebrows like the smartass he is. I rolled my eyes and made my way up the stairs, my head to the floor.
I did a quick scan of the room as I walked. There was a handful of students in here— a little over twenty— but there were more coming in behind me. There was definitely groups forming already, and all I could think of was a repeat of high school.
There was a cluster of what I presumed to be jocks by their large build and the variation of old, high school uniforms from whatever sport they played. Sitting near them was what I could already tell was the popular clique— stereotypical bleach blonde hair, makeup making them look six years older, tight shirts with push-up bras pushing their boobs up to the highest.
My focus was so drawn to everyone else, I wasn't paying attention to where I was going. My head turned just in time to watch myself collide with someone else, falling to the floor and tossing my books in the air. I landed hard on the ground and rammed my head against the side wall, initiating the start of a pounding headache that would probably last me the day.
"I'm— so sorry." I blurted out, rubbing my head before getting to my knees. I grabbed two of my books and searched around for the third, muttering quietly, "I'm really sorry I just—"
A cold, pale hand brushed against mine, grabbing the book I had reached for. The hand set it down on top of the two others, and I looked up as I took a sharp breath in. His grayish blue eyes were bright with life, and he held a soft smile. Two silver lip rings hung together on the right side of his bottom lip.
"Are you okay?" His voice— oh his voice. It was low and husky, with a hint of an accent. Was it British? That's what I was hearing. He had dark brown hair that swooped just above his eyes and was cut shorter on the sides. A black tee clung to his body, showing off his rippling biceps and a tattoo I caught a brief glimpse of.
