"Hey," I felt a small tap on my leg. My lights were on, and I frowned as I looked up. Hanna was standing at the edge of my bed.

"The flight's in two hours." She said. I looked at the time. 3:30am. "I just wanted to see if you'd changed your mind."

I thought about Reece's words. "Maybe there's more to this than you know."

"How long would we be staying?" I asked.

Hanna blinked furiously for a few seconds, obviously not expecting that answer. "Oh, uh, well, your grandmother was hoping you'd stay for the funeral, which would be held next Thursday, and then we'd be back on Friday. So a week and a half?"

I sighed and sat up, getting out of bed. "I'll go."

"You will?" Hanna was hopeful.

I nodded. "Only if Reece can come with us."

Hanna agreed and went to go wake him up, mumbling something about how grateful she was that Liam had bought that extra ticket. I pulled my duffel bag out from under my bed and just mindlessly threw clothing items and toiletries in there. I was done in less than twenty minutes.

I picked up the bag along with my phone, and headed downstairs into the kitchen. Liam was leaning against the counter, the light of his phone screen illuminating his face as he sipped on a cup of coffee. He didn't notice me enter the kitchen until I dropped my bag in the doorway and it thumped against the tile floor.

"Morning kiddo," he said gently.

"Morning," I replied. I stood by my bag. Liam had straightened himself out and was looking at me with a bit of concern.

"How you holding up?" He asked.

I shrugged. I really didn't know. My mother had stopped being my mother a long time ago. Her death wasn't affecting me like it should've. It scared me, but it also didn't matter to me.

Liam sighed. "I know it's a lot to take in, but you need to prepare for the worst."

"My mother's death isn't the worst thing that's happened in my life." I mumbled. Liam didn't respond.

Hanna came downstairs, dragging a very sleepy Reece behind her.

"Let's go, let's go," she whispered, "we're running a bit late."

All four of us headed outside. While Liam and Reece placed all our bags in the trunk, Hanna and I climbed in the car.

"Are you excited?" Hanna asked. "You know, to go back home?"

"Kind of," I said, but then I really thought about it. What did I have to be excited for? My mother was dead, and I had to go back to my hellhole of a hometown and see everybody I knew, and face all the judgement of those who knew what had happened to me.

"I'm not excited at all, actually. To be completely honest with you, I'm only going because of you. I'd rather not go back to Rochester, but I don't really have a choice. Plus, Reece kind of changed my mind."

"Did he?" She raised an eyebrow.

I nodded and left it at that. Hanna sighed. "This trip would've been better if it was under different circumstances, hey?"

"I guess." I sighed. Reece and Liam entered the car.

"I'd really rather not be here." Reece grumbled. "I'm only coming for you, to be a support system. I don't know how emotionally ready my parents are for this and might not give you the proper attention you'll need."

"Like I told you before, I don't really care." I said. "I'm going for the sake of your mom, and based off the curiosity that you've put in my head."
