Reece came back in. I stood up and walked over to him, wrapping my arms around him and holding him tightly.
"It's okay," he whispered. "Cry."
"I have nothing to cry." I answered honestly. "But I'll miss her. With all she did, with all she fucked up on, I'll miss her."
Reece hugged me tighter. "At least you aren't a sociopath."
I pulled away and smacked him. He chuckled lightly. "Are you gonna be okay to meet your sister on your own tomorrow? My parents want all of us to be there, but I think it's something you should do on your own."
I rubbed my hands together like my grandfather had and sighed. "I'll be okay."
Something suddenly clicked in my head. I looked at Reece. "In my letter, my mother revealed that the man I thought was my father isn't actually my father."
His eyes widened. "Oh my God,"
"But the woman at my house claims to be my grandmother, the mother of my father." I said. "So is the mother of my biological father or of Maurice, and does she know that I'm not biologically Maurice's daughter?"
Reece sighed and shook his head. "It's two o'clock in the morning, Hunt. These are questions that I don't have the answer to. Tomorrow's the day for everything."
"You're right." I said. "You're right."
I took a seat on the edge of the bed. Oliver's text popped in my head and I grabbed my phone, texting a quick reply.
hey, uh yeah, i came back to rochester because my mom died. her funeral is next thursday and i'll be back friday. i'll call you in the morning.
I put my phone down and sighed. Reece bit his lip. "Oliver?"
"Uh yeah," I said, "he texted me earlier and I forgot to reply."
Reece nodded slowly. I looked at him. "What's your deal with him?"
"I have nothing against him." He said.
"You're lying."
Reece cocked an eyebrow. "Excuse me?"
"You only grit your teeth when you're mad or when you're lying." I pointed out sheepishly. "And honestly, you could be both right now."
"I'm not lying." He shook his head.
"So you're mad?"
"I'm not mad!" He exclaimed.
I smirked. Reece let out a sharp breath and ran a hand through his hair. "Okay, I'm a little annoyed, and yeah maybe I was lying."
"Why don't you like him?" I asked.
"I," he thought about his words before he spoke, "ever since Joel did what he did, I just get nervous about guys I don't know that well getting close to you."
"But you know I can handle myself, right?"
"Doesn't mean I don't have a right to be worried." He muttered.
He was so sweet, it was kinda annoying. I walked over to him and placed a hand on his arm. He looked down at me. I saw his eyes scan my face and flash down to my lips. He probably would've made a move if Hanna hadn't burst in.
I quickly stepped away and cleared my throat, stuffing my hands in the pockets of my sweats. She eyed the both of us suspiciously.
"What's going on here?" She demanded.
"Nothing," Reece said. "What's up?"
"No, obviously something's going on here!" She was damn near screaming. She stormed over to me. "Are you trying to seduce my son?"
