[ ONE WEEK LATER ]
"You've literally disappeared, what the hell." Amandla commented as I joined my friends at our lunch table. I had been so focused on taking care of Jake and helping him cope with Jack's overdose that I had completely avoided my friends. I had ignored their calls, texts, everything.
"Word," Jaiden slapped my back, "where've you been, Harrison?"
"Jamieson," I corrected.
"You're basically a Harrison now." Priya snickered. "For real, we miss you."
"I miss you guys, too." I sighed. I picked up a grape and threw it at Oliver. He looked up from his book and I smiled. "Hey,"
He picked up an almond from his own lunch tray and threw it back at me. "Hey,"
"What's new, what have I missed?" I asked.
"Jaiden here is actually passing his classes!" Katya gasped sarcastically and clapped her hands together like she was talking to a little kid.
Jaiden rolled his eyes. "Piss off."
"And he said he'll take summer courses too to get a head start on senior year!" Katya smiled.
"Really?" I turned to Jaiden.
He nodded and his cheeks flushed, but his hard expression didn't change. "Yeah, I'm trying to get my shit together so I can graduate and get the fuck out of here."
"Proud of you." I said. "Seriously."
"Thanks, babe." He winked.
Priya snickered. "Don't let Reece hear you call her that."
"She was my babe before Harrison." Jaiden rolled his eyes.
"Actually she was Oliver's babe."
I looked at Kevin with wide eyes and he gave me the "you know I'm right" look. Oliver's eyes were on me and I just smiled awkwardly.
Conversation soon started up again, and we were all laughing and making fun of each other, the worry of stress long forgotten.
The bell soon rung to signal the end of lunch, and you could see on all of our faces that we didn't want to leave each other's presence.
"We should catch up later, like lunch or something." Priya suggested as we all stood.
We all agreed, said our goodbyes, and headed our separate ways. Kevin offered to walk me to class.
"How's Jack been?" He asked me as we took our time down the halls.
"Getting there slowly." I sighed. "It's just been rough. We're all taking our time."
"That's food." He said. "I'll come by and—"
"Fucking faggot!"
I halted in my spot. Kevin stopped walking as well, and we both shared a look of confusion.
He sighed and turned around, assuming somebody was speaking to him. However, the look of shock on his face told me that he wasn't the one being spoken to.
"It's Cody," he whispered.
I whipped around and followed his gaze. There Cody was, pinned up against the lockers by a group of boys I knew as his and Blake's friends.
