Chapter 26: Slappings and fist fights

"Hunter... I branded her."

The silence around me shatters in an instant, Hunter's vicious swears hitting me likes shards of broken glass.

"YOU FUCKING SELFISH SON OF A BITCH!!"

The car almost seems to erupt in chaos, with Hunter's aggressive hands clawing at Jay's throat from the back seat.

"I didn't know she was an heir!!" Jay yells through Hunter's onslaught.

"It doesn't matter! You just ruined her entire life cause of your fucking school boy crush!" Hunter growls back, throwing a few heavy punches at his nose.

A steady trail of blood is now trailing from Jay's nose. The sight of the horrifyingly crimson colour has me crackling back to life.

"Stop it Hunter! No more punching of faces until you tell me what the hell he did!" I command forcefully.

Hunter pauses after a few moments, not looking up at me to keep his vicious glare on Jay.

"I-Um" Jay starts, obviously looking for an excuse.

However, Hunter tugs him upwards with such an animalistic strength that Jay is immediately clamping his mouth shut.

"Don't lie to her" he says deeply through gritted teeth, "just tell me one thing."

Jay nods a bit too hastily.

"Where. Is. It?"

You can see that Jay is trying to fake misunderstanding.

"Where," Hunter growls once more.

Finally giving in, Jay responds with a clenched jaw.

"Lower back. Just above the underwear line" he grins mischievously, despite his rugged appearance.

"You slimy piece of-"

"What does he mean Hunter?" I interrupt him, fear tinging the edges of my voice.

I can see him debating between consoling me and beating Jay to a pulp, the conflict visible in his glaring eyes. However, his soft side eventually wins out.

"Leave" he dismisses the blonde haired boy, who quickly retrieves his faded red beanie before leaping out of the car.

Once his enemy is gone, Hunter sighs, obviously not looking forward to the conversation ahead.

"What did he mean by 'branded', Hunter?" I ask once more.

He turns to face me, the headlights from nearby cars casting golden flecks in his eyes.

"Violet, that slimy son of a bitch did something to you that'll mean you can't claim gang leadership" he says slowly and carefully, though the end product is the same.

"WHAT?!" I shriek, "I finally accepted my role in the gang and Jay thinks he can just... take it away from me?!"

His steely expression indicates that he is even angrier than I am.
