Chapter 29: Would you like me back? After Hunter pried his sisters out of the doorway I was finally allowed inside his house. However, unlike the last time I was here, we decided to skip the luxuries of greetings and the offering of beverages since we both know what we're here for.
So after a quick goodbye from Razilee who went to play is the garden, Ashley is now walking us up to Hunter's room to make sure we 'keep our dignities'. This girl seriously frightens me.
"Remember. I'm. Watching. You" Hunter tells his sister one last time as we make our way into his room.
The dominance in his voice is so brotherly it's almost as though there's no one else fit for the role.
"Whatever" Ashley rolls her eyes, "just remember that I've never said anything about the countless number of times I've heard you fucking some girl in your room, so don't come creeping on my private time."
"ASHLEY! No swearing!!" He reprimands her once more.
She completely ignores him, instead leaning in to whisper something to me.
"Keep it clean ok? The last girl he had was soooo loud and she made so much mess!" She exclaims, placing a hand on her hip.
I can tell that she's trying to make me crack, but as if I'm letting that happen.
"Don't worry, I'd rather stab myself in the eye with a fork than do any of... that, with your brother" I tell her bluntly.
Something close to surprise flashes in her eyes followed by the tiniest hint of respect, and I can't help the satisfaction I get from it.
"Goodbye Ashley!" Hunter commands her once last time.
With one last eye roll and dramatic salute she exits the room, leaving Hunter and I sitting side by side on his bed.
"So..." he starts awkwardly.
Sighing in defeat, I turn to face him, my hands clenching my thighs.
"Look Hunter, I just want to get straight to the point. Why did you do what you did?" I ask him bluntly.
"And what exactly did I do?" He counters mischievously.
"Don't play bullshit with me dude. I want answers."
I was hoping that my use of 'dude' would put him in his place. Typically words like that imply a friendship and not a hidden romance. Luckily he does take note of the phrase, his face dropping ever so slightly.
"Violet..." he searches for words, "I'm not sure I can give you the answers you're looking for, but I can tell you that I'm sorry for putting you on the spot like that."
"I don't want apologies! I want to know what you plan to do!" I exclaim dramatically, just desperately searching for a way out.
"Well, I haven't really thought it out completely but I've got one part of a plan" he says cautiously.
"And? What would that be?" I ask impatiently.
His eyes flicker ever so slightly as he debates something in his head. In the end he goes with the latter I suspect since he opens his mouth to tell me something.
"I think that we should fake a relationship."
The silence that follows afterwards is one of the most awkward moments I've ever experienced. I honestly can't decide what's more offensive, that he wants to 'fake it' or that he thinks I'd actually do it.
