Chapter 18: Third time's a charm

My fourth week at Bridgeville High is finally over.

Yet, even though I am halfway through the first semester - and halfway into Hunter's dare - I can't remember a time when I wasn't here, stuck in all this drama. I can't remember a time when my heart wasn't caught between two boys  - and no I will not tell you who - or when I was free to walk outside my house without running into one or all of the guys.

For example...

// Attempt 1: Friday night //

"Hey Violet! Would you mind grabbing the mail?" My mother had shouted up the stairs.

Of course, being the good girl that I am, I went to get the mail.

"Sure mum!" I shouted back.

Tilting the screen of my laptop down, I slip my feet into my navy ugg boots and throw a sloppy joe over my tank top.

Sprinting down the stairs, I swiftly yank the keys off their usual hook and throw open the door. As expected, my front lawn looked perfectly normal, not a stray flower or weed in sight. However, it had only taken me a few steps across the grass to notice the approaching car.

It was a slightly banged up, grey truck, with two boys standing in the back of it. As soon as they spotted me, they flung themselves out of the back of the truck and started running towards me.

"Violet!" Logan yelled, trying to grab my attention.

"Violet, you have to talk to us!" Brendan shouted along side him, "you don't even know the whole story!"

For a moment I just stood there wide eyed, unable to process how fast they were coming towards me. But once that moment had ended, I began running straight back into my house, not caring if I was getting grass on my uggs.

"VIOLET!" Logan screamed one last time, before I slammed the door in his face.

Of course they then proceeded to bang on the door. From what I heard, Ethan soon joined the two boys, desperately begging to talk to me. What would they be able to explain though? Would they be able to tell me everything that they've been hiding from me and why?

No, they wouldn't. They'd just come up with excuses and lies and then more excuses until I can't tell what the truth sounds like anymore.

"Get off my lawn you hooligans!" My dad hollered.

"Calm down, Richard!", my mother shouted at my raging father.

Speed walking down the hallway, he swiftly threw open the door, grabbing the hose from the porch and turning it on.

That had been the end of the first attempt of many to come. Though my dad would not be able to protect me with his hose forever...

//  Attempt 2: Saturday morning //

I had just been about to hop into the shower when my phone rang.

"Hello?"

"Violet, please listen to us!" Heather's voice leaked from the device.

I wasted no time in hanging up on her. However, mere seconds later a loud banging began to echo from my window. Immediately knowing what is was, I yanked open the curtains. Needless to say, Logan was clinging onto my window sill for dear life. Seeing me with a towel wrapped around me, my hair flowing over my bare shoulders made him even more shocked.
