Chapter 22: The secret life of Violet Willows

The morning after I slept over with Jay and his friends, I immediately felt ten times better than I had before leaving home. Just waking up surrounded by positive energy was enough to have me beaming once they dropped me off at my house.

"Will we be seeing you tomorrow afternoon?" Jay shouts over the music playing from his scratched up navy van.

"Why would I be seeing you then?" I inquire, a grin playing with my features.

"Because we're throwing a party for ourselves on the first night at our new school" he explains casually.

"I thought the point of a welcome party was for you to be welcomed by other people."

He chuckles at me.

"Will I see you then?"

"Of course" I smile back.

"Ok, then I gues-"

"Yay! I can't wait!" Caitlin interrupts him, popping her head in from the backseat.

I roll my eyes at her, turning away from them with a content grin on my face. I can hear the sound of screeching wheels as it pulls away from the curb behind me.

I quickly decide to abandon any hopes of explaining everything to my parents so I simply climb back up the drain pipe and through my window. Throwing on a fresh pair of white wash jeans and a pink tank top, I quickly grab my stuff, brush my hair and climb back out the window before being spotted. Then I make my way to school as quickly as possible.

//First period//

After walking for half an hour I finally arrive at school feeling tired and emotionally unprepared for the day to come. Since having that conversation with Katie I have been dreading running into Hunter and the rest of the group.... but mostly Hunter. Every time I look at him, even just a glimpse from afar, I get frustrated beyond belief. Maybe having a new set of friends won't be so bad after all.

"Violet!" I voice calls.

Looking up from the floor I see that my gym teacher is standing at the end of the hall in a bright red tracksuit.

"Why are you late, and where are your sports things?" she calls even louder, as I make my way towards her.

"I'm having a bit of a rough time at home, so I had to walk to school and I forgot my clothes" I explain, hoping that maybe, just maybe, she knows about my dad's business and will understand my pain.

"Unacceptable. Detention. Tuesday afternoon" she says back without a moments haste.

Guess she's as clueless as everyone else at this school.

"But I have a par- a prior commitment to attend to that evening."

"Doesn't matter. You waste my time, I waste yours."

With that last booming comment, she turns on her heel and begins making her way back to the gym with me following along.

"Ok then" I mumble quietly to myself.

Not needing to be told what to do, I quickly make my way to the group of people dressed in their normal clothes on the bleachers. They all seem just as depressed as I am, and since I don't know any of the people here, I immediately lapse into a well-earned silence. The lack of attention gives me time to think things over once more. However, of course, Hunter had to ruin that too.
