Chapter 35: An unexpected arrival

"Why are we going to this party again?" I whine to Bella.

She mindlessly continues flicking through her wardrobe for an outfit for me to wear.

"Because, being a part of the higher social society of Bridgeville entails certain... responsibilities. Plus, maybe you'll find a hottie to distract you from Hunter" she grins.

I turn away so she can't see me rolling me eyes before suddenly turning back to face her as the last part of what she said sinks in.

"Wait what?"

She giggles in a mischievous way making me regret trusting her.

"It's his party silly. I'm not even sure how we got an invite since he hates us but Amelia told me that some blonde hottie told us to come."

"Who's Amelia?" I ask in confusion.

She simply shakes her head.

"I personally wanna know who invited us since Hunter will probably piss himself when he sees this" she continues, ignoring me whilst holding a navy card in her hand.

It says in fancy, white letters that everyone who receives one of these invitations is invited to attend The Jones' end of year party.

"Neat right? For the first time we can actually get in. His end of year parties are always really fancy and the most elite and awaited event of the year. Besides graduation of course", she explains, practically revelling in this new found power.

"Do I have to go though?"

"Yes Violet! The point of going is to show them that you're moving on, and you don't need them hanging over you like a dead carcass any more."

I figure that there's no way I'm gonna get her to let me stay home so I simply nod in return.

"Fine, I'll go" I cave.

"Yay!" She squees jumping up in the air.

"But how fancy is it? The last party of his I went to was filled with beer and sluts."

All of a sudden I am thrown back into the whirlwind of memories in my mind, finally resting on the one of me and Hunter sitting on my roof with my head on his shoulder. The memory of how his face softened after I told him someone had called me a slut was what had first made me realise that he was something else.

Of course I hadn't realised it at the time - since I was severely lacking in knowledge of the male gender - but Hunter would turn out to be one of the most extraordinary guys I've ever met. The kind of guy that you only meet once and is just so mind blowing in ever way that you find yourself tripping over your feet.

But of course, I just had to go ahead and ruin it all by telling him about Ethan. Now he couldn't be interested in me if I tied a sign to my head saying I love him.

"The last party was just a casual one. This one isn't just teens though so you have to dress up" she instructs.

"Not just teens? Who else is coming?" I demand, getting restless.

"Everyone. All of the east side higher social groups are invited. So basically all the gang leaders and high level roles."

No matter how she puts it I'm still left standing with my mouth wide open.

"It's a ballroom dance sorta party!" She swoons, "with fancy dresses and waltzing and boys."

She seems to have become lost in imagining it, with her eyes scrunched shut and her mouth spread in glee. I decide to leave her like this, letting her continue sorting through her dresses while I go back home for a bit.
