Chapter 33: A new friend

"Did you find them?" Hunter shouts.

I don't pause to give an answer, instead walking straight out the door and across both our front lawns. I hear several sets of heavy footsteps following me.

"Violet! I thought you were sleeping over!" Hunter shouts.

"Things change", I mumble to myself.

Slamming my locker shut I quickly grab my stuff for gym and make my way there.

I've been avoiding all my friends the entire day, and I'm pretty sure they know it. I honestly just feel stupid. I mean, now that I'm counting, this is the third time I've found myself avoiding them. The lord is probably giving me a sign that I was too stupid to see!

Walking into the change rooms is like walking into the slaughterhouse. Everyone is looking at me with a butchering look on their face.
I continue through this torture nonetheless.

"Hey Violet" Bella greets me, with none of her usual malice.

"I'm really not in the mood Bella" I groan.

"Look, I just want to start over."

Her words cause me to pause in my pursuit of the darkest corner of the room.

"What?"

She smiles at me warmly, "we have a code here in our little troop", she says gesturing to all her friends, "everyone here has at one point been tempted by those four boys, however, we each denied these temptations and banded together."

"Um sorry, what?" I repeat, still utterly confused.

"Hunter and his band of bad boys have been breaking girl's hearts for years now, so we all came together to stand against them. Now, since you've done the same thing, we are offering you an invitation into our squad. I don't really hate you anymore. In all honesty I was just jealous that you got into Hunter's heart before I did, but you're gorgeous so who's to blame him" she shrugs.

Im trying to wrap my head around what she's just said when Heather and Caitlin walk into the change room.

They each catch sight of me and begin making their way over as quickly as possible.

I turn back to Bella in a hurry, "sure, I'll join your girl squad of vengeance or whatever."

Her smile breaks into a brand new definition of joyful.

"Yay! Finally! I've been meaning to find a new right hand woman since Amanda started pursuing Hunter."

"Wait what? She's pursuing Hunter?"

However, she doesn't hear me as she has already turned around to face my two ex-best friends as though she had been expecting them.

"Hello ladies" she hisses, returning to her usual ways of mischief.

"Move Bella, we need to talk to Violet" Heather growls, shooting me a look over the queen bee's shoulder.

"Too late. She's with us now."

Confusion crosses both of their features. I then make the mistake of locking eyes with Caitlin. Her eyes glisten with the promise of an extended apology and the need for me to forgive her. Yet, next to this, I also see the memory of her making out with Ethan on the kitchen counter.
