       LAILA'S POV

My mum continued to sob and my worry escalated every second that passed. If she wasn't my, I'd have silenced with a slap so she could tell me what was wrong with my sister.

" mum, please tell me what happened. Tell me my sister is fine", tears blurred my vision.

"She was taking her breakfast when I saw blood in her nose. She was bleeding profusely by the time we arrived in the hospital. After the doctor examined her......," she haltered when jackie jumped at me and pulled me into a hug. She was smiling but her face looked pale. I could tell by how her eyes flickered with sadness.

My mum rose from the stool and held Jackie's hand angrily.

Jackie gave her a questioning look like she didn't want to continue with rant. I remembered how my mum gave me so many endless stories whenever she was nervous or worried. Sometimes I could pretend to have homework and got the library to avoid her. I don't say I didn't enjoy her stories, but yes, why lie. I didn't like them at all.

Sometimes she'd drag me to her room and talk the whole night and she wouldn't allow me to sleep. I understood how my sister felt like. She must have been bored to death especially knowing how my sister didn't like being confined in the same place with my mum.

She always complained about my mum's smelly legs. At least I didn't have to. She saved me a lot of trouble.

I remembered the day we visited my uncle Kelvin at his place, Ruiru a place called Membley, the land with beautiful mansionate houses and apartments. She literally asked her not to take off her shoes or she'd stay outside. My mum pinched her saying she was being rude. She took off her shoes despite of my sister murderous glare. We ended up locking ourselves in one of the bedrooms with our cousins and played PS.

My mum's agitated voice pulled me out of thoughts.

" didn't I tell you to stay in your room?", Jackie smiled at her with her hands placed around my neck.

"Calm down mum. I feel okay  now. See..", she jumped up and down with her hands wide open to prove her point.

" am good now and besides I wanted to see my big sister", my mum gave an exasperated sigh before going back to the sink to wash the dirty dishes.

Jackie held my hand trying to pull me to the living room but couldn't move me an inch. She didn't have enough strength, i thought. I loosened myself as I followed her behind.

"You know how mum is, she always build a castle in the air when there is nothing to worry about," she hit my left arm.

"Like you...", she said in a low whisper.

I gave her a disapproving frown." hey don't say that. Am nothing like your old mama", i said wryly. We heard plates fall from the kitchen and my sister laughed. I wished I could. I was sick worried about her. What did the doctor say? What was wrong with her? I wished someone could answer all my questions.

"Old mama, are you okay in there?", Jackie shouted towards the kitchen and another plate fell. We both laughed together realizing the effect the name had on mum.

" Jackie.... I heard that... ", we laughed as my sister turned to me.

"Tell me how your first day was. Did you make many friends? how many? Did you guys plan a party? Tell me", she said happily.

I pulled her in a tight hug. I had missed her so much and I didn't want her out of my presence again.

" why are you behaving like your old mama? Stop this drama and tell me what happened Grannie ", my heart pained at the mention of that name. But then it was my sister who called me. I wouldn't get mad at her at any cost.
