Chapter 30
Hellzel’s Point of View
I was certain that no amount of soothing and consolation would ever mend Laila’s broken heart. After all the effort I put in, literally begging her to eat, she deprived everything I had offered and went directly to the fridge for a beer.
Actually, the term beers would be more fitting. She was already hastily downing her fourth bottle, the liquid dribbling down her chin. It didn't look like she'd stop anytime soon, possibly only when all my drinks were gone.
"I will never shed a tear for anybody ever again,” she stated, tears streaming down her cheeks.
How do you even stop a girl from crying, huh?
"That woman who called herself my mother, she never loved me. She was always asking for me to do this stupid surgery on my breasts. She said they'd look attractive enough for my boyfriend to revel in".
My eyes widened in surprise at her words. I could barely believe what was coming out of her mouth. It’s probably the alcohol and the pain of being disowned by her mum that drove her into saying such things.
Hopefully.
No mother was capable of doing such a thing to her daughter.
Right?
But then again, after going through her messages, I felt like I should believe her. How can a mother even think of disowning her own child? Especially through text?
I just found that hard to believe.
"There was not a single day where my mom ever told me that she loved me. My boyfriend Don, he always beat and insulted me. He even threatened to kill me if I didn’t accept to do the surgery". Laila stood and stumbled over to a stool. When she went to sit down, she almost fell, so I grabbed her and pulled her close to me.
Curling into a ball, Laila slumped onto my chest and suddenly burst into tears once again.
Oh my God! What am I supposed to do now?
"My sister, Jacky, always supported me. She always stood up for me and she never accepted anyone mistreating me. I should probably go and see her right now. My Jacky..."
Laila staggered slowly, walking out of the kitchen and heading to the front door. I ran towards her and grabbed Lay just as her hand touched the doorknob. There was no way I could allow her to go home in such a state.
She paused for a minute, and I could feel her tremble slightly. She was terrified of what her mom had said, and all she wanted was to be around someone familiar to her. I could feel her pain practically radiating off of her, her shoulders raised and the muscles of her back tensed.
Suddenly, Lay turned around and embraced me in a warm hug. Her arms encircled my waist, surprising me. When I looked down, her eyes were closed, but silent tears fell on my shirt. Slowly, I put one arm around Laila’s waist, and then the other. I brought her closer to me, trying to take her pain away.
Suddenly, I was aware of her boobs brushing me lightly. The hairs at the back of my neck stood up as my body tingled slightly. My mind scattered in a million different directions from her touch.
Laila opened her eyes and peered up at me, placing her hand on my chest while those eyes pieced right through me. Her lips parted slightly as she stared at my mouth, and I could feel her heartbeat quicken in her chest. I leaned in closer, both our foreheads coming into contact.
I totally lost all control as my breath hitched slightly. Nobody had ever had this sort of effect on me before. It was both exhilarating and terrifying.
