It was late, like 11pm late. There you were, running into the store, makeup dripping off of your tear stained cheeks. There he was, grabbing snacks and for himself and his friends. His eyes averted to you while you scanned the aisle for what you needed.
"Are you okay?" He asked, you looked over at him and shakily nodded. You snatched the food from the shelf and scurried off. Your tears were endless. No workers seemed to be at their tolls which stressed you out even more, so you decided to do self scanning, and you saw the familiar boy again.
"Ugh why won't you scan." You groaned, hovering the chips over the scanner, but it just wouldn't work.
"Here, let me help." The boy offered, flattening out the barcode and simply scanning it properly.
"Thank-you." You gave him a small smile and finished off scanning your items.
"It's okay not to be okay you know?" He told you, while you shoved a note into the money slot. You looked over at him and creased your eyebrows.
"Excuse me?" You asked, placing your food into bags. His eyes widened.
"I didn't mean it in a rude way, oh my gosh I'm so sorry. I meant that you didn't have to run off when I asked if you were okay. Everyone gets upset sometimes." He apologised quickly.
"It's all good. I'm just going through a really tough breakup right now." You admitted, gripping onto your bags. His face turned into a guilty look.
"I'm sorry." He scratched the back of his neck and walked slowly with you out of Walmart.
"Quit apologising, it's not your fault. I guess my boyfriend really did fall in love with my best friend." You sighed, biting the inside of your cheek and not wanting to cry again.
"What a jerk. You seem really nice and obviously you're really pretty, you don't deserve someone like that." He admitted.
"For someone I've just met at the grocery store, you seem super kind." You told him and he blushed a little.
"I'm Daniel." He ushered for you too shake his hand but you pulled him into a hug, which he gladly accepted and hugged back.
"I'm sorry, I just really needed a hug and you seem like a really huggable person right now." You sniffled, pulling away from him.
"Quit apologising, it's not your fault." He mimicked, gently padding away loose tears with his thumb. You two looked into each other's eyes, and you felt like there was some sort of spark in the air.
"I'm Y/N." You finally said.
"Well Y/N, I don't like seeing you cry, even though we only just met. If you ever need someone, I'm here. Pass me your phone." You unlocked your phone and handed it to him, he gladly put his number in it.
"Don't hesitate to call me when you're upset, you shouldn't be upset on your own." He told you. Eventually you both got into your cars and drove away. That night, you spent eating and texting Daniel Seavey, whom you'd definitely like to see again.
