Chapter 24. Don't cha

I grab the next book on top of the stack flipping through it. Since practice is only an hour after school, I decide to take the opportunity to gather more information for the short film. As I'm flipping through the pages I hear the squeak of the seat across from me being pulled out.

My eyes flicker up surprised to see an amused Axel taking a seat in front of me wearing, sunglasses?

"You are aware you are indoors?" I ask completely dumbfounded, "The sun never sets on a badass love" he smirks leaning back in his chair as I stare at him blankly, "Sometimes I question your sanity" I dryly state continuing back to reading before feeling awkward as the memories of last night flood through my brain.

"Hey, I uhh... I know I thanked you last night, but I still feel like it's not enough, I just really want you to know how much I appreciated you being there, it means a lot" I awkwardly stammer fiddling with my sweater not daring to meet his gaze, "Don't worry about it, you just better make it up to me" He grins crookedly as I shove him playfully.

"Why are you reading books on depression and other mental illnesses?" He curiously asks observing pile of books in front me, "It's research for the film I'm creating with my film club" I explain flipping through some more pages.

"Is there a specific theme?" He asks leaning back in his chair and I nod, "It's meant to target mental illnesses, specifically depression and to bring awareness to suicide and such" the last few words come out so slowly as I realize his body tensing at my words. His jaw clenches as he shakes his head as if he's trying to forget something, "You really enjoy making films huh?"

"Yes sir" I respond grabbing another book, "Sir?" He asks as his lips twist into a sinister grin, "Kinky I'm loving this authority" He grins wiggling his eyebrows at me as I scoff throwing a pencil at him, "You should make a film about me, title it 'Axel the lady killer', make me a superhero" He suggests chuckling as I roll my eyes, "A superhero that wears sunglasses indoors?" I counter with a smirk earning a scowl from him, "I'm currently in disguise from a certain girl that hasn't quite received the hint yet"

I snicker at this, "Aw is Axel afraid of a little fan?" I tease as he scoffs, "No, but this one in particular is a bit psycho"

"She can't be that ba-" before I could finish the door to library flies open and in comes Beth waltzing in our direction. I hear Axel mutter a profanity as he sinks in his chair dropping in his face in his hands.

The librarian shoots her a dirty look as she skips over obnoxiously chewing her gum as she takes a seat at our table next to Axel.

"Axel babe we missed you where'd you go?" She faces towards him placing her hand on his bicep, "Ew only nerds hang here, why don't you say we go to the bathroom and repeat what we did late last night, I can-" before Beth can finish that god forsaken statement I chime in, "Alright I'm gonna go, Axel, hope to see you at practice, Beth, hope to see you......never" I mutter hurriedly stuffing my books into my backpack getting ready to leave.

"Hmm.. seems to me a certain someone doesn't know how to take a hint" She scowls glaring daggers at me.

"That makes two of us" I glance over at Axel who cracks a small grin at this, "Anyways, why do you hang out with this weirdo?" She asks Axel with disgust evident in her voice as she readjusts push up bra as he turns to her.
