Chapter 39. Good game f@ck you good game
"Ready for today?" Olly asks me as he leans on my locker crossing his arms. I lightly nod suppressing the urge to vomit.
"Don't worry about Quinton alright? He's an ass, but you're gonna do great." He reassures me and I offer a close lipped smile, "Is it too late for softball try outs?"
"You have way too good of an overhand pitch to be pitching underhand." Olly explains and I sigh slamming my locker, "Then maybe I suddenly have a gastrointestinal disease and I cannot play."
"Oh stop, you'll be fine, the team needs you." Amber adds and I sigh. I glance around my locker and see every student wearing some type of plain-view apparel in honor of the game.
"It's like a second homecoming game, everyone has been mentioning it." Olly blabs out and Amber agrees, "It's all over snapchat, even Beth posted a 'come support the boys!' snap."
"Am I boy?" I ask, dumbfounded.
"No she's just a toad." Olly points out and we all agree.
"It's game day!" A voice cheers out behind me and I turn around to see Nolan and Cooper.
"Are you hyped Carolina?" Nolan asks me wiggling his eyebrows.
To get it over with, yes.
"More or less, are you?" I ask and him and Cooper both vigorously nod.
"Oh, I have something for you." Cooper grabs his back pack and sets it on the floor. We all curiously watch him as he reaches into his book bag and pulls out a dark blue Plain-View shirt with white lettered outlined in baby blue font. It read : Plain-View Baseball
"Aw for me?" Nolan gushes and Cooper rolls his eyes as he hands Amber the shirt and I clamp my mouth shut to keep from gasping in awe.
Amber takes the shirt and smiles at him, a smile that genuinely reaches her eyes, "Cool something to wear tonight."
"Coop what am I going to wear of yours now?" Nolan teases and Cooper smiles, his dimples prominent in his soft features.
"Also coach said we're meeting at 5:00p.m before the game so that we can practice over game plays before the match at 7:00p.m." Nolan explains and I nod, "Sounds good."
I drive home after school completely absentminded as I do so. After eating and showering I slip into my game clothes.
White baseball pants with blue socks and a blue uniform top. White letters sprawled across reading our town along with my number on the back and last name. I packed my bag throwing in Gatorade gummies and my water all along with my bat, helmet, gloves, and cleats.
I slip my hair into a high pony tail and throw a cap over it. I take one last look in the mirror and head down stairs.
"All set?" My grandma asks and I nod, she warmly admires me, "You're going to kill it."
"Thanks grandma."
"No problem, we'll be out there to cheer you on with Olly and Amber." She adds and I crack a smile before exiting my home.
The moment felt surreal as I listen to the steady rhythms of my breath as I walk to my van. The sky is bleeding pink and orange and I'm fading in and out from nerves before I hear a call of my name.
"Want a ride?" Axel asks. He's wearing the uniform with his back pack on. His stellar looks almost makes it hard to even admire him for too long.
His bat is sticking out the top of his bag and Nolan, Cooper, and Grayson are walking behind him throwing their bags in the trunk of Nolan's car.
