Sitting on the couch

I hate this couch

I hate sitting

I can hear Kate talking to the officer

"Thank you so much, sir."

Mumbles

"Yes, we'll make sure to keep him safe."

More mumbles

"We'll fill one out tomorrow."

They got quieter

"That won't be necessary."

I've given up trying to distinguish what the man is saying

Next thing I know

The door is closing shut

I watch as her face changes

From a fake smile

To a genuine rage of madness

She looks at me

Anger pulsing in her eyes

I knew what came next

"Get up." She growled

Through her teeth

I rushed to stand

Paining me to look at her

"I can't believe you'd do something like that?! What, do you think, Pete and I are idiots?" Kate yelled at me

I didn't have to time to respond

"I don't want you ever leaving this house ever again. I'm changing my shift to a night shift so I can stay here during the day and Pete will stay up during the night to watch you. You're never going to be alone again. We are going to make you're life a living hell." She poked my chest

"Like you don't do that already." I whispered

She started to walk away

But turned around

"Huh?" She asked, "Wanna repeat that?"

I stayed quiet

Saying nothing

She walked over to

Just looking at me

It was quick

But the first second of contact hurt the most

As her open hand smacked again my cheek

My face moved

I grabbed my cheek

The piercing pain rushing all around my sensitive nerves

"Go to your room!" She yelled

I took my hand off

Rushing as fast as I could

Running so quick

All the way to my room

Closing the door

And locking it

I didn't stare out the window

Or let the tears finally flow over like a dam that had been holding so much

It started to overflow

I just sat on my bed

Legs crossed

As I closed my eyes

And breathed

I needed to breath

This was all just too much

Out of the corner of my eyes I could see a glare

A bright

Shiny

Glare

I was confused

I looked up

To see it coming from my desk

Not just my desk

My Frisbee

The one Colby got for me

I hadn't used it

It still had the ribbon

The note

The love

But it felt faint now

Plastic couldn't cause this glare

Neither could ribbon

I got up slowly

Furrowing my brow as I walk over

I grabbed the light object

Turning it over

I saw a silver shiny key

A string attached to it

And a note taped to it

I was confused

What was this?

A treasure hunt?

I tore off the note

Opening it up

And started to read

'Feel free to stop by any time you want. The door is always open for you. -CJ'

I slowly placed the note back down

And picked up the key

It was light in my hand

Cold

But made me feel warm

I closed my hand

Gripping onto the key firmly

As I close my eyes

And cry

I'm good at crying
