31 - The Two Women

I walk through the door

It's wooden with creaks of loneliness along the edges

I feel cold walking through

I don't want to be here

But I can't be anywhere else

At least they won't let me

I angrily plop my duffle bag on the bed closest to the window

I am searching around the room

It's small

But warm

But the unsettling feeling is unbearable

I hate it

There's a bed next to mine

It was messy and jumbled

But the rest of the room stayed clean

I looked back at the doorframe

Back at the two ladies

One belonged here

One was going to leave me here

"Oh, um this is Jack's bed. He's quite messy. I'm sorry." The woman starts straightening the bed

I just watch

Saying nothing

The woman chuckled nervously and stops

Sighing as she backs up

I look at the other lady

More professional

She walks toward me to talk

"I know it's...different here. But, you have you stay here. It won't be for long. I promise." She tells me

I don't know why

But I don't believe her

It's gonna be the same process all over again

Foster home to foster home

No one truly wants me

I can't blame them

I wouldn't want me

"The case is scheduled for Thursday, we'll come pick you up then." She pats my shoulder

It's then that she walks away

And I no longer see her

I say nothing

I'm just so quiet

I'm good at being quiet
