After the sun has risen and floats lazily in the sky, and the world has come to life and is now bustling I head back inside. I pull a heavy blanket over my shoulders and grab my laptop, settling down at the dining room table. A chill has crept over my skin after the long time outside and I snuggle into a ball as I begin working on my laptop. I pick out the few photos I have decided to submit this month, Jimin included. It takes a while to correct and edit them so each looks as close to perfect as I can get them. I check my e-mail lazily and continue to mess around on my laptop to pass time.
The day inches along achingly slow, and all I can do is keep myself busy with minor tasks to fight off the boredom.
It is late afternoon when my stir-craziness gets the best of me. I bundle up and grab my camera, heading out. Although the walk is troublesome and the sidewalk is crowded, the destination is usually worth it. A small, unknown cafe just a few blocks from my apartment. It is always quiet and peaceful, and their coffee is much better than I could make. It seems like forever until I arrive, but when I do I push into the warm, sweet-smelling cafe and inhale deeply.
There is scuffling in the back room before a man bursts through the door from the back room. He looks at me and smiles easily, his eyes squinted.
He is decently tall, with inky black hair that falls over his forehead, parted slightly off center. He wears black slacks and a white button up shirt, a brown apron settled over top of it. He reminds me of my mother in so many ways.
"Good afternoon Yoongi."
He greets with a wide smile and I return a small grin.
"Afternoon Jin."
I say light-heartedly. Jin was always able to make me feel at ease. I sit at the table in the corner, my usual, as he comes around from behind the counter to take my order.
"The usual?"
He asks as he makes it to my table and I shake my head, my normal, strong black coffee seeming too plain and bitter.
"I want something sweeter. But not too sweet."
I note and he taps his chin thoughtfully before a wide smile crosses his face.
"I've got it. I'll be right back."
He says happily and I nod as he retreats to the kitchen behind the counter. I gaze out the window as I wait, the stream of people blurring into nothing but colors as they pass. A small kitten trots past the window, swerving through feet and dodging moving people. It is tiny and orange, but looks plump and well-fed. As I look closer I notice it's blue collar with a bell dangling from it. This time something much bigger catches my attention. It is a small child in a pink coat, chasing and reaching for the kitten. She giggles and smiles as if this is a game they play often.
I grab my camera and lift it, focusing on the kitten and the child so the rest of the world becomes a blur.
Click.
The child reaches for the cat who swerves back into the stream of people.
Click.
The kitten stops and her tiny hands move even closer.
Click.
The tiny girl lifts the tiny kitten into her arms with a triumphant smile, mouth open as she laughs.
I lower my camera and flip through the images slowly, studying them. I don't notice Jin has set down my cup until he waves his hand in front of my camera. I blink up at him and he smiles gently.
"Tell me what you think."
