The wolves howling jolted me awake, my eyes snapped open so I was staring into Hestia's hazel eyes, her brown hair tickling my nose.
"What are you doing here?!" I shout at her, scrambling back a bit, wings flared.
She frowned,"The wolves are coming. I don't think Aquarius believed me a while ago."
"I can't say I blame him."
She stuck out her lower lip, before an idea seemed to strike her,"Do you want to make a deal?" Her voice had changed, it held a more persuasive tone.
"You know I did hear your conversation with Aquarius, right?"
"Yes, but he likes to play things safe, not into risks." She grinned.
"What's your point?"
"Make a deal with me, I can do almost anything if it's for a deal." A fire lit behind her eyes, and a grin slowly stretched across her face.
"Why? What can you offer me?" The words slipped unbidden from my mouth, even though nothing had been proposed I already was enjoying the idea of a deal. No matter what that rational, survival instinct hissed in the back of my mind, louder, more powerful voices crowded for my atrention.
Hestia's grin spread wider,"Almost anything your heart desires little one. Given enough power and time I could harvest the stars so you could wear them around your neck."
"Really?" I could feel my eyes grow, she was so confident I believed her, no skepticism entered my mind. Well, except for the small, nagging voice in the back of my mind that just wouldn't quit.
"So, I see you like playing with Fate Hestia." Aquarius growled from the branches below me. Almost causing me to fall out of the tree in shock.
Hestia frowned,"No, she's no fun anymore, only messing with a few. Why did you interupt me?"
"You know why."
"Well remind me. If for her sake as much as mine."
Aquarius shrunk back a bit,"I don't think that she needs to know that. That any of them need to know that."
"Most of you try to hide so much of their world from them. Is that why you don't like us? Those like Polaris and myself?"
Aquarius simply scowled,"You know what I think Hestia."
"Would you rather I told her?"
"No! Only her though."
"Well Kara is the only one of her kind we know is for a fact alive."
"Just tell me already, whatever it is, it can't be that bad."
"It can." Is all Hestia had time to whisper before Aquarius's eyes began to glow and his dark hair was played with by a wind that seemed to only pay mind to him.
"As we make way for our blessed Queen Fate another in the shadows stirs, a song sung to late. When she awakes even Fate shall bow her head, for a change this way comes." Aquarius blinked and the light that had filled his eyes flickered out.
"That, little Kara, is the Prophcey." Hestia grinned down at me,"The Prophecy has one thing that is clear, none of us who have been condemned to living here can change things. No that is an outsiders job."
"The outsiders are also what keeps the Desert around, alive. Yet it's also almost as if the Desert wants your kind to die. Creating monsters, planting them in your heads, so they appear here." Aquarius swept his arm around, indicating the Desert as the sun slowly began to rise over a mountain ridge in the distance,"This place contradicts itself at almost any turn. That Prophecy is the one thing that stays true."
"So, are you saying that I am the one in the Prophecy."
"I don't know. Don't think about it to hard though. The Desert grows hostile again. Your training is over, the real deal starts now. Be careful, and you just might live." Aquarius's yellow eyes held so much sadness I almost didn't notice Hestia lunging for his throat.
