"No. No you aren't." I reply, voice firm even though I trembled,"If that was the case you would have just taken the Desert from me, or Fate."
"Mmm, no you see it doesn't quite work that way."
I raise one eye brow,"Oh, it doesn't?"
"No it doesn't." He growls.
"Why?"
"Because she said so."
"Who?"
"Life!" Simon screams,"And to think you run the White Desert now, honestly."
"So what are you going to do?"
"Make you play my game."
"Let me guess, Simon Says."
"How did you know?" He mocks me,"Suddenly we are so smart. Now," his face goes cloudy again,"How we play."
"No. Kara don't!" Chance says, standing as close to us as he can.
"Simon says to stop talking Chance, Simon also says he will let you know when you can speak again." Chance apparently decided he doesn't want to risk his wrath, what ever it would be,"Good. Now as I was saying," he pressed his hands together before speaking again,"I trust you have played my game before."
"Of course, who hasn't?"
Simon shrugs,"A small few. I trust you remember the rules."
"Is this at all redundant?"
"Of course it is Kara, that is the point of this. Now," an evil grin spread across his face,"Simon says bow." He has magic! I think as his spell takes hold and I bend over, bowing.
"Simon says, hop on one foot." I comply.
"Oh this is already so much fun, Simon says spin in a circle." I slowly spin.
"Good little Kara, now tell Chance here that you would like to will me dominion over the White Desert if you were to die." I make no move,"Go on, tell him."
"Simon didn't say." I whisper.
He gasps softly,"No I did, I am Simon after all."
"Simon didn't say." I repeat.
"Well I am Simon and I said."
"Simon didn't say!" I scream, standing up right and sweeping my sword in a wide arch, Simon leans back just far enough to stay out of my reach.
"Simon..."
He starts but I point my sword at him and growl,"Simon didn't say." Simon lifts his hands and backs away slowly as I match him step for step,"Simon won't say. Except to tell Chance he may speak again." I hold my sword at his throat to ensure his compliance.
"Simon says, Chance may speak."
"Good, now I am feeling merciful, any last words?"
"Simon says..."
I press my sword far enough into his neck to draw blood,"No commands." I growl.
"Simon refers to himself in third person in threatening situations."
"Continue." I nod.
"Simon says leave the White Desert."
I freeze, my mind no longer controlling or even in my body as I struggle, not knowing what to do anymore. Apparently some measure of my mind was still present enough to push my sword into the wall to ground myself. That bit of my mind had also conveniently forgotten Simon was pinned under my sword. I only notice this because of a cold hand on my shoulder, I whip around to face the hand' s owner, almost hitting their side with my sword. Death pulls something from Simon and tucks it away before turning to me,"So, you need to leave."
"No," I shake my head, backing into the wall, eyes growing wide and lifting my sword.
"Kara, this doesn't have to be this way..."
"I'm not going with you!" I scream,"Not peacefully! Not now not ever!"
Death's face darkens,"Then I will send you kicking and screaming to your grave."
"No!" I scream lifting my head higher,"No! Chance help me!"
"I can't Kara. Not now." Chance hangs his head.
"I'll kill you!" I shriek, holding my sword to Death's throat,"I'll do it!" I scream at him, his passive face driving me over the edge of insanity.
"No Kara. You won't. You can't." Death calmly replies, not moving.
"Then you'll have to find me! I know I can run, maybe even hide!" Without warning I take off into the air, somehow releasing Chance as I go.
"I will find you Kara, you are running on borrowed time!" I hear the calm call and fly faster, terrified he will try to catch me.
I should have plenty of borrowed time to use up by now. My mind wanders from death to death I have caused, Enough for now....
