Traps

Some weeks later...

"What was that?" Hestia asked, she now was a mostly permanent resident at my fortress.
"I'm not sure, I'll go investigate." I actually knew exactly what the offending sound was. The snap of a trap being triggered.
The wolf noticed me leaving and rose to follow, I tugged a cloak over my shoulders to hide my wings. I had realized that hiding my identity could have saved me a lot of previous troubles.
I wander down the front path, one hand resting on the hilt of my sword.
"Hey! Help me out here please?" I turn in the direction of the distressed cry to see a young man stuck in one if my many traps, his wings flared as he struggled to free himself from one if many traps that had been set. So new to all this. Oh well, here comes a rather rude awakening.
"Hold still."
"What?" He stops moving though, only then can I tell that he his hanging upside down and that his wings where flared because he had caught them, not out if fear of distress.
"Stay still and this won't hurt... As much that is. This will really hurt by the way." I didn't remember setting this trap, regarding the thing I decide someone else must have, probably Sage.
I moved behind him to disable the trap to find that he had managed to get the mechanism ensnared in his wings, a very small cut was already bleeding.
I slowly remove the trap, clearing as much as I can with out causing him to much physical harm. Then it came to the part enclosing his wings, and he had triggered the trap perfectly.
"What are you doing?" The question came unsteady as I grabbed one wing.
"Freeing you." His scream was jagged as a knife, followed by another, then as he dropped to the ground just horrible whimpers.
I wince, deciding my arrow wounds to the wing had likely been no where near that pain,"Sorry. That was the only was to get you down. Can you walk?" The boy tilts his head so he can glare up at me,"Fine." I growl. The wolf gives a shirt yap, almost like she was laughing as I haul the boy to his feet and drag him to my fortress.
I set his wings and leave him for the most part alone (I had the wolf follow him).
"You aren't staying here for long." He had been here for about a week when I decided he needed to go.
"Why?" His voice grated upon my ears,"What if I killed you?" I raise one eyebrow.
"That would be rather ambitious don't you think? Especially for some one with broken wings?"
He shrugged,"Yeah well-"
I shake my head,"Bad idea."
He didn't take my word for it, oh well, the Desert will be in danger sooner than expected. I draw my sword and shrug off my cloak for the first time since meeting the boy.
We thankfully stood in the back gardens, so I had the advantage of flight since he was still grounded. I think he realizes exactly how bad of an idea fighting me would be for him. He may have made this far, yes, but I had been here far longer.
I had killed before, I will look again.
I hold my sword, waiting for him to arm himself. Eventually he figured it out and summoned a rather long dagger. I remained stoic, allowing him to attack first.
As he charged I stepped to the side, turning to see where he had gone off to. I lift my sword, barley blocking a cheap shot he had made while I was turned. I return his attack with one of my own, hitting simply because if he had attempted to block my strike he would have lost a hand. First blood went to me all the same.
I notice a slight pattern in his attacks and force him to vary, watching as he stubbles backwards, falling on the ground. I walk over and hover one foot over the edge of his wing,"Get up."
He does so, and screams loudly in pain as a result, for my foot pinned his wing,"Let me go!"
"Fine, you asked for it though." I step forwards and plunge my sword into his chest,"Don't worry, Death won't make you wait very long." I turn and walk to a small fountain nearby, rinsing the blood from my sword and hands.
"Kara."
"What now Death?"
"Why is he dead? You know the Desert needs your people."
"Yes and the Desert still has me." Death scowled, clearly not liking my answer,"So, are there many more left? So I know if I need to prepare for more guests."
Death sighs but nods all the same,"Yeah, most of them seem to be doing well actually."
I grin,"Good."
