I wake up to the sun streaming through an open window, with a yawn I find some food and resume reading,"What are you doing?"
"Reading." I growl at Hestia as she leans on the door frame.
She lifts her hands above her shoulders, mocking surrender,"I just was trying to start a friendly conversation." I ignore her and try to continue reading,"What are you reading?"
I lift the book's cover so she could read the title,"I'm trying to figure a way to leave this Desert."
"Why would you want to leave me?" She cries dramatically, placing a hand on her forehead in a poorly imitated motion of distress.
"Not you,"I sigh,"I came here for a reason, I would rather accomplish what I came here for."
"Oh, okay." She perks back up again.
"Do you know how to get out of here?"
"Die." She suggests.
"Nope. Wrong answer, try again."
"I don't really know actually." She admits.
"So you have no idea."
"Nope."
"How do you have no idea?"
Hestia jumps to her feet from where she had been sitting,"How would I know?! I meet fewer people than you would think."
"Okay, okay. I just have a hard time thinking that no one has asked you or told you before."
Hestia shrugs,"Most people find me off putting or they just don't like me."
Unsure how to respond I simply nod and continue reading,"Does anyone know how to leave the Desert?"
"Maybe, Aquarius might."
"Malum is dead." I reply, glancing her way.
"What?" It was her turn to not know how to respond.
"Yeah, he made me kill my friend, I killed him. Not to long ago."
"Well that explains that."
"Explains what?"
Hestia looked me dead in the eyes,"The wolves."
"What about them?"
Hestia shrugged,"They've been acting strangely. Besides that some of us can tell when others die. Just those who have always lived here."
I nod,"You seem to not care much."
"I do but I don't. I'm not who you have to worry about. Keep an eye out for Karma, or Fate."
"Fate said that Karma was being lazy, but I'll keep an eye out all the same."
"So you've meet her?"
"Yeah, last night."
"Cool."
"So there is no known way out." I close the book,"That was the last one that would have told me how to leave, and it didn't tell me much that I didn't know."
Hestia shrugs,"Guess your stuck here for a while then."
"Yeah." And I'm going to do everything in my power to leave.

I slip through the trees, every sense alert making sure that nothing was to close to my fortress. I launch through the air, plunging my sword into the back of an unsuspecting shadow. More dust coats the blade. I slip back into the tree line, hiking further into the woods. After a while I run into something that resembled a gargoyle. I slowly approach from behind it before jumping forward, plunging my sword into its back. Well, I tried to.
Nothing happened, the gargoyle didn't pay attention to me and my sword glancing repeatedly off of its armored back.
Small, vestigial looking wings flared from the gargoyle's back, wrinkled and weak looking. I attempted to strike the more fragile looking area of the gargoyle' s back only to be blocked by it casually stretching its wings. Furious that the gargoyle was in essence ignoring me I pulled one of its wings out of my way and manage to sink my sword into its shoulder.
Bad move.
The gargoyle slowly turns to face me, sword still in its shoulder, if a stare could kill it would be this one.
The beast's eyes had vertical slits for pupils surrounded by yellow, waxed looking irises. The gargoyle glared at me and slowly pulled my sword from their shoulder with one mangled looking claw.
Nope, no one touches my sword except for me.
I rip my sword from the gargoyle's greedy grasp and stab at one of its eyes. I hit my target and the gargoyle releases a scream of agony the grated upon my ears like nails on a chalk board. Eager to stop the sound I plunge my sword down the gargoyle's open mouth.
Silence, choking noises. The gargoyle fall in a heap on the ground with a dull thud. With a slight sigh of relief I clean my sword and return to my fortress.
