22. Reflection (Fluff)

"Keith you should at least dance with someone tonight!" His father glares at his son who's sitting in the throne next to him. "I'm not a dancer father! How many times do I have to tell you!" Keith snaps back at him and his father just gives him a look. Keith sighs but gets up from his seat and makes his way across the ballroom. As all the ladies woo at Keith as he walked by them before leaving he just pulled a fake smile before exiting with a sad look on his face.

He walks down the halls that have guards lined up on each side, making sure that the prince doesn't get hurt. Keith just sadly smiles at the doorman, who was his only friend in the entire castle. "Hey Hunk... I'll be in mother's garden." Keith keeps his head down, and Hunk gives him a sympathetic look and says a small okay before watching his best friend walk off looking depressed. "What's up with him?" The new servant says before looking down at her clip board of duties that she has to do, "Oh hey Katie." Hunk watches Keith make his way down the giant staircase that leads into the court yard. "It's something he has to tell you himself really..." Hunk sadly smiles before turning to Katie. She only nods before looking at Keith who is heading to his special place. "Where is he heading?" Katie asks before realizing that the king gave permission of a prince to look around, "His mother's garden, he needs alone time." Hunk says before looking at the list of guests, "Where Prince McClain? I didn't see him enter the ballroom." Hunk says before walking over to a small desk around the corner.

"The King met him a few hours prior to the ball and gave him permission to explore the castle grounds, before heading to the ballroom. I'm supposed to be looking for him right now, have you seen him?" Hunk shakes his head and Katie sighs in annoyance. "I'm off to find him, if you see him tell him to head to the ballroom, the king wants to talk to him." Hunk nods before heading back to his post by the door.

Keith wakes his way over to the gazebo by the pond and sits down near the water while looking up at the sky, looking for the brightest star up there. It became a routine lately, he'd come here feeling down about something and comes to talk to his mother. It made Hunk sad one day, he was on duty of watching Keith while he was in the garden. He had to see Keith breakdown and confess that he wasn't ready to be king.

Keith's mother passed away a couple years ago, she was the reason why Keith was happy. She was the reason Keith stayed sane for so long. Now, Keith was alone with a strict father who only cared about his family being royal. Keith wanted to be normal, to feel normal, to be himself.

Keith then looked down at the pond to see the star shimmer brightly, he smiles then begins to talk to her. He believed that star was his mother, he felt he needed to talk to the star when it first appeared when his mother passed away. He leans down on the side of the gazebo like you would lean on a desk when you're bored in class, much like Keith when he's in his lessons. He can't help but feel down, and he explains that to his mother.

"Look at me," Keith tries not to cry, "I will never pass for a perfect husband," He scoffs at himself and adds, "or a perfect son." He looks down at the reflection of the star to see it flicker and he can't help but smile, "Can it be? I'm not meant to play this part?" Keith sighs before a few tears slide down his cheeks, "Now I see, that if I were truly to be myself, I would break my father's heart." Keith takes a moment for his tears to fall, he shifts back to a normal sitting position before getting up and moving to the edge of the pond. "Who is that man I see, staring straight back at me?" Keith looks at his reflection to see a face covered in makeup and his hair slicked back and the royal clothes on his body. "Why is my reflection someone I don't know?" Keith looks up at the sky with more tears forming. He really wants his mother, Keith never usually cries unless it's about his mother, he just wants to be held, to be loved. "Somehow I cannot hide who I am, though I've tried." Keith sobs out before looking down at his palms, he brings them into a fist before asking his mother one last question, "When will my reflection show who I am inside?" Keith looks up again with a pained expression before he gets startled by a crack of a branch.

He looks around to not see anyone but once he looks up in the tree he sees a tanned man that he's never met before. He blinks away a few tears before grabbing a handkerchief and wiping his tears away. The man asks, "Are you okay?" Keith just sits there in shock as the man jumps from the tree. Keith adverts his eyes once he sees the appearance of this man, a handsome man that has caught Keith's eye. "I'm guessing you heard all of that..." Keith goes a light pink before attempting to look him in the eye, but fails and looks the pond to see their reflection. "I did, I'm sorry about that... I'm Lance McClain, Prince of Altea." Keith blinks a couple times before actually before holding out his hand like he normally does when he meets other royalty. "Keith Kogane, Prince of Mamora." Lance smiles and shakes his hand, and both of them feel that electricity they've been looking for a long time now.

"Um... S-So who were you talking to?" Lance adverts his gaze to see a plaque on the stone wall, In loving memory of Krolia Kogane, may this garden be a memory of her happiness. Keith looks up at that sky before saying, "I was talking to the stars, hoping my mother would hear me." Lance goes into shock before sadly smiling. "I do that too... My father passed away ten years ago." Lance finally lets go of Keith's hand, Keith goes a dark shade of red before Lance remembers the words Keith had said. "What do you mean you would break your father's heart if you were to be yourself?" Keith looks away before kneeling down and dipping his fingers in the pond. Lance just admires his features before kneeling down beside him. "You can trust me... I promise to keep it a secret." Lance says quietly before dipping his fingers as well. Keith sighs before glancing at Lance and then looks at the reflection of the star, it flickers and Keith takes that as a sign to tell him. "I can't find a suitor at the ball." Lance frowns before looking at him.

"What? Why?" Lance says but Keith brings himself into a ball, "I don't like women Lance..." Keith then stands up and starts walking out of the garden with Lance on his tail. "You mean that you fancy men?" Lance asks while taking ahold of his wrist, Keith nods before stopping. "You don't have to be afraid Keith, I won't judge." Lance smiles before moving from his wrist to his hand, intertwining their fingers, causing Keith to go into shock. "Because I too fancy men." Lance smiles before pulling him into kiss.

As the two kiss, both of them felt in the right place at the right time before having to pull away for air. Lance grins before saying, "Oh Keith, I know we just met but I feel like we've met before!" Keith chuckles but nodding in agreement. "What am I going to do about my father Lance?" Keith says before they bring their foreheads together, Lance smiles, "If he doesn't like it he can do nothing, we can run away and be together." Lance begins to ramble and Keith fondly gazes at Lance. "When will my reflection show who I am inside?" Keith looks Lance in the eye to see his blue orbs to see his reflection to see a happy man, Keith couldn't help but not agree with Lance.

After hours, Keith and Lance were accepted as a couple. Keith couldn't help but be happy, he saw how his father was a little heart broken, but he didn't care, he found his happiness once again.

After years of being in a relationship, the royal wedding was coming near. Keith and Lance were busy as bees getting ready to combine two kingdoms into one.Where most of the kingdom agreed with this marriage. There were homophobes but that isn't new, this world will always be cruel. Now Keith and Lance are one as a couple and created a whole new kingdom.

Now their next mission was to figure out how to create a family...
