Leather Jackets and Brooches

Chapter 5

Doorbell chimes

"Hey Pop"

"Archie! How are you this evening?" 

"Yeah all good thanks Pop, our friend could do with some food as she's had a little too much fun tonight. Well, we're all a bit hungry actually."  Archie laughed.

"Say no more Mr Andrews. How about the House special?" Pop suggests

"Sounds great, right Guys?"

"Sure thanks Pop" Veronica adds 

"No worries kids, take a seat, enjoy yourselves" Pops smiles and heads in to the kitchen.

"Come on Cheryl, lets get you sat down" Toni and Kevin help Cheryl in to a booth.

"It's ok guys I will keep an eye on her, you 4 can sit in your own booth otherwise it will be a tight squeeze" Toni kindly offers.

"Thanks Toni, my arms are killing me" Kevin shakes his arms to try and get the blood back into them. He held Cheryl up for most of the way to Pop's.

"Well you've had quite a night huh?" Toni sits down on the opposite side of the table

"Yeah well my mother has turned our house in to a sexual playpen" Cheryl tilted her head on her palm

"Wow, ok you did have a lot to drink" Toni sat back and laughed

"I'm serious. My mother is acting like an escort for the older men of Riverdale" Cheryl looked down at the table 

Toni lent forward "Cheryl, I'm sorry I had no idea"

"It's ok, my family is all forms of messed up"

"Same here" Toni agreed

"Hey you go girls, 2 cherry colas" Pop placed the two glasses down in front of them

"Thanks Pop" Toni smiled at the older gentleman

"Here's to messed up families" Toni raised her glass to Cheryl

Cheryl lifted her glass, and tried to clink it with Toni's glass but missed causing some of her drink to spill making both of the girls laugh.

"Ok, maybe that was not the best idea" Toni giggled.

"Who knew Cheryl would be hanging out with a Serpent, maybe we should let her drink more often" Kevin whispered to Betty causing her to giggle.  

Once all of them had finished there food, they payed Pop and walked out of the diner in to the cool air of the night. 

"How are you feeling now Cheryl?" Betty asked 

"Yeah I feel better actually, thanks guys" Cheryl smiled

Veronica looked at her for a few seconds "Yeah she's sobered up but I still think someone should walk her home" 

"I don't mind" Archie offered

"It's okay Archie, it's own my way to my Grandfather's trailer, I can walk her home"

"Are you sure?"

"Yeah it's okay. I will let you know when she's home" 

"Ok thanks Toni, we will see you on Monday then" 

"See you then, good night" Toni and Cheryl waved them goodbye.

"Right then, shall we get you home?" Toni smiled at Cheryl

"I suppose I don't have a choice" Cheryl rolled her eyes then smiled softly.

They girls began walking down the road towards Cheryl's mansion. 

"How did you know where I lived?" Cheryl turned to Toni

"Since I was young I used to cycle nearby and look at all the mansions, but I always stopped at yours. You had the biggest and most beautiful house I had ever seen. I always dream of growing up in a house like that" Toni confessed.

"The house is beautiful I can't lie, but growing up in that household has been hard" 

"I did read about your father and your brother in the papers. I'm really sorry Cheryl"

"It's ok, I just miss Jason a lot" Cheryl looked down at the ground

Toni decided it would be best not to mention Jason anymore in case it upset Cheryl. They continued on the path to Cheryl's house. Toni noticed that Cheryl seemed cold because of her arms tightly crossed, so she removed her Serpents jacket.

"Here, I can tell your cold."

"No it's ok thanks, you will get cold instead" Cheryl politely declined

"Don't worry I can wear my flannel shirt" Toni removed her flannel shirt from her waist then put the shirt on and re-offered her jacket to Cheryl.

"Um thanks Toni" Cheryl put the leather jacket on.

"Suits you" Toni smiled

"I do love leather jackets, I can't deny that. But I never thought I would wear a Serpent's one" Cheryl laughed.

"There's a first for everything, all we now is me wearing a River Vixens jacket" Toni said jokingly.

Cheryl laughed at Toni comment. Cheryl was starting to realize that Toni wasn't like the 'typical' Southsider. Toni was friendly, she cared about people and is an amazing dancer, someone the River Vixens could do with. 

They were approaching the gates of Cheryl's mansion when Cheryl stopped and turned to Toni said "Thank you for walking me home and lending you jacket"

"It was no problem, I had fun tonight, Midge and the other girls are really friendly. Something I didn't expect to happen when moving to Riverdale High"

"Yeah they're great. Thank you again Toni" Cheryl handed the jacket over to Toni, who then put it back on.

"I guess I will see you on Monday then?" 

"Sure" Cheryl moved closer to Toni and embraced her in a hug, Toni was a little shocked by Cheryl's sudden change in character.

"Bye" Cheryl smiled and waved back at Toni who was heading back down the path.

Cheryl walked up to the door and slid in as quiet as possible to avoid waking her mother up. She went up to her room and shut the door  behind her, she then went on sat on the edge of bed.

Phone Buzzes 

Cheryl takes out her phone to see a text message from Midge.

Midge: Hey Cher are you home ok? x

Cheryl begins tapping away at her phone.

Cheryl: Yes thanks, Toni walked me home. You were right about her, she's actually really nice x

Midge: Lol I knew you would come around. All you need to do now is get her on the Vixens aha x

Cheryl: We shall see ;) x

Cheryl locked her phone and placed it on her bedside table. She began removing her clothes to change in to her nightgown. She went in to her bathroom to complete her night time routine which included cleansing and moisturizing. Once she was finished, she turned off all of the lights and got in to her bed where she soon fell asleep.
