Dad, teach your daughter
of the bible. The devil has been
tempting her with sin.Her fourteen year old soul
is possessed by a terrible
demon. When she tells you she's sad,
lecture her for letting
sin tempt her,
make her feel dirty
for the way she feels
about women.Dad, take her to the church
to become clean again. And when she gets a boyfriend
and he goes into her bedroom,
she does not go to you later.Instead,
she lies down alone
and cries.That night,
your daughter takes a shower
to scrub the feeling of his hands away,
and goes to school
in the morning.There were days
she sat on a chair
inside of a brick building in town
lying to her therapist
her eyes begging for help,
but she never tells you about it.Dad, your daughter
is eighteen,
standing
at her graduation,
holding a degree
and eyes full of dread,
next to you
and the rest of the family. She is not happy.
Your daughter
spoke to her friends,
telling them stories of her pain,
revealing an entire lifetime. She has never been
the silent type
and she lies in bed sobbing,
trying to fix her pain,
to fall in love with a man.Dad, your daughter
is twenty years old,
she begged the devil
inside her and God
to make the pain
disappear. go away. leave.Dad, your daughter is
twenty-eight.You begged her to make
you and your family proud. So she married a man,
shattered and heartbroken. The days she doesn't want
his hands on her body,
he yells that he owns her.So she lets him.
Why would she let him?
But Dad,
your daughter was
just a young girland you told her
to silence all her sinful temptations.
