I woke up to an empty bed. Rowan wasn’t in my room so she must be getting ready for school. I got up out of bed and looked at the time. Six Thirty. I got out a shirt, pants, and shoes like I did every morning and got dressed. I made my way to the bathroom and combed my hair, brushed my teeth and put on some deodorant then made my way to the kitchen where I found Roland and Rowan eating cereal.
Rowan saw me first and stood up from her chair. She was wearing a Rolling Stones T-Shirt, shorts, and a rubber bracelet. She wore black Vans and her hair was pretty straight but still kind of wavy. Her eyes were lined with black but not to dark so it made her eyes pop. Her lips still pretty nude and her lip piercing still the same.
“Sorry, I thought I’d get your brother and I some breakfast before be both starved.” She said jokingly.
“It’s fine. I’m happy you felt at home.” I said to her, making my own bowl of cereal.
Roland got up from the table and put his bowl in the sink.
“Thanks Rowan.” He said to her before making his way back to his room.
Rowan waved back to him and then walked back over to the table and grabbed her bowl.
“Thanks for letting me stay. I was kind of freaking out last night.” Rowan said putting her bowl in the sink and washed hers and Roland’s.
“You don’t have to do that Rowan.” I said taking a bite of the cereal.
She kept washing though, ignoring my comment. She turned off the water a few seconds later and dried the bowls before putting them back in their place. I set my bowl of cereal down and came up behind her and hugged her.
Rowan stood still, she didn’t move but she was still uncomfortable. I could tell she was.
“Rowan… go on another date with me.” I said to her in her ear.
“Okay.” She said still not moving.
I let her go and she ran a hand through her hair sighing.
“Better get going. The bus will be here soon.” She said exiting the room.
I sighed and leaned against the counter top. Should I have not done that?
Girls.

We loaded onto the bus and sat together. Rowan didn’t say much that morning. I kept telling myself it was because of her mom but I knew that wasn’t true. What I did this morning caused her to be quieter than she had been for a while now. I was hoping our date would correct everything.
