Cassiopeia's POV
"It works out for the best though," I whispered to Harry. "Teachers are bound to notice if students frequently disappear on the same day every week."
Harry and I sat in the common room working on some potions homework. We were quietly discussing the DA meetings, that were going very successfully. Harry was an amazing teacher. I turned back to my potions and essay and scribbled a few more lines.
I was about to turn back to Harry when I felt someone's chin on the top of my head. When I turned around it was to see Fred standing there. He half smiled and then turned to Harry.
"Mind if I steal your sister?" Fred asked.
Harry shook his head.
I stood up and followed Fred out of the common room. I had the strange feeling of something being off, but I wasn't sure what. Fred grabbed my hand and laced our fingers together as we walked down a deserted corridor.
We stopped and I perched myself up on the window sill. When I looked up at Fred, something was definitely wrong. He smiled, but it didn't reach his eyes.
"Freddie what's wrong?" I asked, reaching out and resting my hand on the side of his face. He covered my hand with his and looked down for a moment.
"George and I got into a pretty bad fight" he said.
My heart dropped. Fred and George got in a fight? They argued all the time but it was usually over stupid little things. Who was better looking, which one had more girls with a crush on them, or whose fault a prank was. I could already tell it hadn't been one of those fights.
"What happened?" I asked seriously.
"Well... you know that girl we saw him with?" He began, and I nodded. "I got tired of him not telling me, so I asked him about it. But he said that there wasn't any girl. And well... I called him a liar and he got really defensive. Said I shouldn't have been spying on him, that it wasn't a big deal, he can go out with a girl if he wants to..." he trailed off sadly.
"Did anything happen after that?" I asked uncertainly.
"Yelling, a few attempted Jinxes and then you came up and he said something and I sort of snapped and left" he said, a look of resentment crossing his face.
Something about me?
"Now Fred, I don't want to be any part of the reason you and George are fighting" I said.
"He doesn't get to blame you for things."
I wasn't sure I wanted to know the answer but my tongue spoke before my brain caught up.
"Blame me for what?"
Fred took a deep frustrated breathe, "he blamed you for me being so... nosy I guess. He seems to think it's your fault that I'm mad he didn't tell me and it was all your idea to follow him around and see what he was up to with her."
I scoffed, "we didn't even follow him. We just walked down the corridor he was hiding in."
I couldn't deny being irritated that George was blaming me. If he didn't want to be found he should have gone to a more private place. And he certainly didn't have the right to blame it on Fred either. George was the one keeping secrets from his best friend and his twin brother.
After a moment of collecting myself, I spoke again, "I'm sure he didn't mean it. I think you both just said things in anger, and you both need some time to cool down. Then you two can talk it over and you'll be back to being inseparable."
"I hope so... I just wish we knew something about her..." Fred said.
I bit my lip nervously, I did happen to know a few things about her. Just because I hadn't been spying, it didn't mean I didn't do a bit of eavesdropping. Well, maybe that counts as the same thing.
