"We're just friends."
And with those blunt words
Her heart collapsed
Because truthfully she wished
To be so much more
His lips which once spouted laughter
Now eased out painful words
Crushing her soul without care
A heartbroken girl stood laughing
A hurricane composed of tearful grins
And it reached out waiting
Taunting the pits of her belly
Asking to come and welcome the world
She couldn't bear to hear the click of him hanging up
Rather she heard the rushing of cars out her window
And the drum of her own heart fighting
Worthless thoughts that wished to poke in
Causing her insecurities to rush back
A sea of painful words
The worst of them coursing through her veins
Stupidly mistaking "I love yous"
For the romance of good mornings
Love she craved in another
Hoping she could make him whole
With little pieces of herself
She broke off thinking she would need them no longer
But she didn't realize she was giving too much
Or maybe she did and that was the beauty of it
