I see it everywhere. Self-Pity is becoming an American epidemic. It affects mostly young females (3rd wave feminists, be be exact...) these days, but it also affects others. People everywhere are getting down and out about things outside of their control. Phrases like "It's not fair!" Or "Why us? Why me?" are heard everywhere. I myself was inflicted with this wretched disease, and I'm honestly still recovering from it. Symptoms to look out for are depression, blaming others or outside circumstances for your woes, complaining about things outside your control, trying to control things outside your control, attention seeking or pity seeking, and victim mentality.
So what's the cure to this wide-spreading illness? The answer is simple; accepting what you can't control and taking hold of the things you can.
Things you can not control include:
What other people do and say
free will
some outside circumstances
how other people think and feel.
Things within your control include:
How you respond to circumstances
What you do or say
How you think and how you feel
So if there is something in your life that you don't like, find a way to adapt to it, or do something about it. Self-Pity does not, never has, and never will solve ANY problem in existance!
