Aileen Collins lives in the slums of Missouri with her single mother until one day, her mother gets arrested and her wealthy aunt and uncle who live in Massachusetts agree to take custody of her. Along with her rare medical condition, going from rags to riches brings on a whole new set of challenges and obstacles for this preteen girl to deal with. But with her inner strength and gift for playing piano and singing, she manages to survive what her adventurous life throws her way, and she records it all in her diary.
