So You Wanna Change The World?

It's needless to say that the world is full of biased, shallow people and there is injustice around every corner. Anyone that would say otherwise has probably been living in a hobbit hole his entire life. However, there's a lesson I've had to learn the hard way; you can't change the world by changing others; you can only change the world by changing yourself. It's a hard reality to accept that more often than not, people will be quick to find the faults in others, but never in themselves. My theory is that many people are too prideful to admit their wrongs and instead point the finger at everyone else. If you truly want to change the world, you can change your  world by changing yourself. Every positive change you make in yourself will make the world a little bit of a better place. You can't control what other people do or outside circumstances, but can control how you look at your circumstances and how you react to them. That's what you can change. You can also work to break your bad habits. Maybe you have problems with anger. Perhaps you feel the need to control everything  around you. Maybe you tend to take everything personally. Or maybe you have a problem with negative thinking. We all have something we can improve on. The first step is to be honest in your self examination. What do you need to improve on? I'll use an example from my own life; I struggled a lot with depression and anxiety. After a lot of thought and I guess soul searching, I found the the main root cause of my depression and anxiety was learned self-hatred. I examined all of the terrible lies that were said about me and I had to replace those lies one by one with the truth. I also started making myself do productive things, which helped me feel accomplished. I kept a gratitude journal (or I would make a mental note of the good things that happened that day) and started doing things I was passionate about, such as painting. But I digress. Since then, my depression and anxiety have significantly improved and I'm much more confident as well. In fact, it's been at least 4 months since I last took an anti depressant, now I'm just taking supplements. So here is my challenge for you today;  be honest with yourself. What do you need to improve on? How did this flaw develop? What are some steps you can take to change it? Once you answer those questions, go and carry out that plan to change. Seek support from your loved ones as well. Then watch the world around you change.
