Laura's POV
My father's car came to a screeching halt in the school parking lot and frantically I pulled into one of the very few free spaces. "Okay, I can do this." I murmured quietly to myself as I watched the other kids pass my car with smiles on their faces, excited for what the rest of the school year would hold for them. I, on the other hand, was absolutely terrified. I had no idea what reactions I'd receive, especially carrying Isabella in my arms throughout the school hallways. "You ready baby girl?"
Isabella gurgled excitedly in the back of the car in her pink car seat and I nodded my head with a smile on my face. "Okay then Bella, I'm going to take that as a yes."
I watched as girls younger than me passed the car, each of them in their own specific friendship group. I held Isabella close to my chest along with her milk bottles, dummies and diapers. Although I loved my daughter, a part of me craved to be normal again. I felt like my teenage years had been robbed from me but at least Senior Year was a chance for me to turn it all around.
After passing what felt like millions of kids my age and younger I finally arrived at Mr Swan's office. To my surprise, there were no kids waiting to be seen by him. I quickly sat down on one of the many waiting chairs and sat Isabella down on my lap, her pink unicorn gripped between her fingertips. It felt strange to finally be back at school, especially after almost a year.
The door to Mr Swan's office opened and he stepped out with a shocked smile on his face. "Laura! I wasn't expecting you to be so early. Please, come in, come in."
I gave him an awkward smile and scooped Isabella up into my arms along with her daily supplies that she needed. I timidly headed into his office and took a seat in front of his desk; a desk that I'd surprisingly never sat in front of before. "I'm sorry I'm so early." I said timidly as I shook his hand from across the table. "I just wanted to get here and get Isabella settled in earlier rather than later."
"No, no, please don't apologise!" Mr Swan boasted as he handed me a sheet of paper with an application for the classes I wanted to attend and another sheet of paper as an application for Isabella's on sight nursery placement. "Now that you're in Senior Year I just need a brief understanding of what classes you'll be interested in this year and of course the application form for Isabella to attend our on sight nursery."
I nodded as he handed me a pen to begin filling out the application dedicated to the classes that I wanted to take. Before I could place Isabella into her buggy, Mr Swan awkwardly stuck his arms out to her with a nervous smile on her face. "May I hold her? You know, until you finish those application forms."
I smiled back and nodded my head as I handed Isabella to him. "She loves her pink unicorn, so make sure you don't take that away from her."
He chuckled and nodded his head as he cradled Isabella in his arms. "How old is she?"
"Almost nine months." I said with a relieved chuckle as I began to write my name and Isabella's name down onto the application forms. "It feels like a day though."
I stared down at the sheet of paper in front of me and bit my lip as I began to wonder what subjects I felt like taking for my last year ever at High School or, in other words, what would benefit Isabella the best.
Name; Laura Marie Marano.
Age: Sixteen.
Subjects I'd like to take; Math, English, Physical Ed, Social Studies.I paused and held the pen up to my lip. I watched as Mr Swan gently spoke to Isabella in front of me and with a gentle sigh I glanced at a poster on the wall behind him. It read, follow your dreams, your heart will follow along with it. I stared back down at my sheet of paper and before I could change my mind, I wrote down the last subject that I wanted to take.
Music.
I handed Mr Swan my application and he smiled down in approval at it. "Interesting choice of subjects Miss Marano! I have no doubt in my mind that you'll pass every single one of them."
"Thank you so much Mr Swan." I said as I held Isabella's application form in my hand. "Okay baby, now it's time to fill out yours."
Application for a placement in our on sight Nursery.
Name; Isabella Anne Lynch.
Sex; Female.
Age; Eight to Nine months.
Allergies; N/A
Mother; Laura Marie Marano.
Father; Ross Shor Lynch.
Shots; All up to date.I handed Mr Swan the last form and he smiled before handing Isabella back to me. "There, all finished. Would you kindly follow me down to our nursery? We can get Isabella settled in and introduce you to the carers and other parents."
"Sure, let's go!" I said excitedly before pushing Isabella in her buggy down to the ground floor of the school which had previously been a basement for the janitor to keep his cleaning supplies and various other belongings. It was now painted a beautiful cream colour and there was an entire room dedicated to the new nursery. "This is amazing!"
Mr Swan chuckled and held open the door for Isabella and I as he followed us inside. To my surprise there were many kids of various different ages all running around and chatting to one another. A couple of parents who seemed to be my age were sat with them, each of them looking just as nervous as I felt. Mr Swan gently placed his arm on mine and cleared his throat to get everyone in the rooms attention. "Excuse me everyone! This is Laura Marano and Isabella Lynch, our newest additions to this nursery. I hope that you'll treat them kindly and that you can befriend one another, children and adults."
Mr Swan carefully left my side and I awkwardly pushed Isabella's buggy over to a spare chair that nobody was sat on. I still had about an hour until my studies were about to begin so I had time to make some possible friends and settle Isabella in before I had to leave. A gentle tap on my shoulder caused me to turn around in a nervous panic as I locked eyes with Missy, she looked tired and pale and she clutched a blue eyed baby boy in her arms. "Hey Laura, I didn't expect to see you here!"
I smiled and stared at her little boy with wide eyes. "Hey Missy, it's so nice to see a familiar face." I murmured and then I glanced quickly at her little boy again. "And a new face."
Missy wearily chuckled. "This is my son, Dallas. He's ten months now and we've been coming to this nursery pretty much since he was born."
I gasped and admired how excited his face looked. "Hi Dallas!" I cooed as I wrapped my finger around his. "This is Isabella, she's eight months." I said with a proud smile as I held up my daughter.
"She's beautiful, Laura." Missy said happily. Her soft green eyes suddenly flickered to something else; or better yet, someone else. "Oh god how rude of me! Laura, this is my friend, Troy, he's a young dad too."
I slowly turned around and locked eyes with a tall boy with dark blue eyes and sun kissed skin. He flashed his teeth at me, they were breathtakingly white. He stuck out his hand and with a quick chuckle he introduced himself. "Hey there cutie, I'm Troy."
