Laura's POV
"Jesse..." I began to murmur before Ross cut me off.
"Wait, you know this guy?"
I nodded slightly and wrapped my arms around myself. I suddenly felt a lot more vulnerable than before.
"Of course she does!" Jesse interjected with a smirk. "We used to date, right Laura?"
I exhaled in defeat. Ross wore a stern expression on his face and his fist was clenched by his side. Although I wasn't his girlfriend anymore he was still extremely protective over me which I had to admit, was kind of sweet.
"It was a long time ago." I admitted with a weary smile in Jesse's direction. I wasn't lying, it had been years since I'd seen Jesse let alone having the title of being his girlfriend.
"Why are you in the nursery?" Ross asked in a demanding tone as he gestured to the young toddlers and babies around us. "Do you have a kid or something?"
Jesse chuckled and shook his head. He pointed to a small blue crib in the corner of the room and smiled to himself. "That's my nephew over there, I had the pleasure of bringing him into nursery this morning."
Ross and I exchanged a worried look. I hadn't heard from Jesse in years so I knew absolutely nothing about his background or personal life anymore. It wasn't unlikely for him to be an Uncle, he did have an older sister when I knew him but she was always out partying late into the night or hooking up with random guys for me to know her personally. "Your sister had a baby?" I asked with a frown.
Jesse nodded. "Yeah, the whole situation is a little bit complicated if you ask me. I mean his dad goes to school here. You know, Ross, the guy I ganged up on yesterday during your practise."
I furrowed my eyebrows and Ross did the same. "Troy?" We both asked in disbelief at the same time.
Jesse nodded once more and shook his head in disapproval at the mention of Troy's name. "He knocked my sister up and begged the court for full custody after she left him alone for an evening without an adult present."
"Well babies need a lot of attention at this stage in their lives, Jesse. Your sister is old enough to know that." I said gently. I felt like I was walking around broken glass to try and keep Jesse on my good side, it was a feeling I hadn't felt for a long time and I can assure you that I don't miss it.
"Yeah, well, still." Jesse scoffed as he threw his hands into his pockets in a child like fashion. "I better get going, I've got a class to get to. I'll see you two around though and congratulations on your baby."
I was about to answer him when Ross grabbed my hand and turned me to face him. "Laura, I want you to be careful of that guy, okay? I don't care if you used to know him or what went on between you two but I know that he's trouble. He tried to physically attack Troy yesterday."
I smiled and carefully released Ross' grip from my hand. "Ross, I'm fine. I can take care of myself but thank you, I appreciate it."
I grabbed my backpack from the chair and turned to face Ross once more. "I've got a class to get to too. I'll see you in second period."
"Bye baby, I'll see you later." I murmured to Isabella who was on the verge of falling into a deep sleep. I placed another quick kiss on her forehead and with a yawn, I turned on my heel to exit the nursery.

"Okay, how about this dress?" Rydel asked me for the millionth time in under ten minutes. I turned to face her and glared at her with exhausted eyes. "Okay... not that one!"
