Laura's POV

"Where is she?"

I opened my eyes slowly and rubbed them before nudging Ross in the stomach, causing him to groan in frustration. "Did you hear that?" I asked in a hiss.

"Hear wha-"

"Where is she? Rydel?!"

We both sat up straight in our chairs. We were sat in the local hospital waiting for Rydel to be induced for her labour. All of the family had a call at twelve AM to get our asses to the hospital or else we might miss the birth of Rydel and Ratliff's first child.

Ross and I were the first ones to arrive with Rocky, Riker and Ryland following closely behind. The five of us were sat in a quiet waiting area which was directly outside of Rydel's private room so that we'd have quick access to her if she needed us.

I glanced at my phone and realised that it was currently three AM and the shrill sound of Mark's ear piercing voice could be heard from almost a mile away as heavy footsteps retreated their way into our private waiting area. "Dad!" Ross exclaimed as he stood up from his chair. He and his brothers shared a group hug with him before he pushed his face up to the door of Rydel's room and began to tap on it to be let in.

"Sir! She's being induced right now and needs her rest. We won't allow anyone except for the father to be in the room at this time. Please take a seat." One of the nurse's explained, pointing to a spare chair beside me.

"But I'm the father!" Mark explained in frustration. He held up a bag of blue and pink balloons that said, it's a girl and it's a boy! Although Ross and I both knew that it was going to be a girl.

Rocky widened his eyes. "Dad... she means Ratliff. You know... the baby daddy."

Mark's face dropped and he instantly took a seat beside me before gesturing his hand to the exit to the nurse and closing his eyes in embarrassment. "My apologises Miss... I'm the father of the girl who is about to give birth to my grandchild... not the father of my grandchild... that would just be weird."

"Indeed it would be Mr Lynch." The nurse muttered with a quick roll of her eyes before she exited the private waiting room.

Mark soon turned to face me, of all people, once the nurse was out of sight. "Gah... it feels like only yesterday we were waiting for you to pop Isabella out. Time goes so fast!"

I glared at him and folded my arms across my chest. It wasn't that I disliked Mark, but I wasn't exactly fond of him either. "You weren't there for her birth." I murmured sharply. I could feel Ross' eyes lingering over me but I didn't really care. Mark had no interest in Isabella until she was at least a year old and to me that wasn't good enough. Not in a grandfather point of view at least.

"I know that Laura. Stormie and I couldn't make it, remember? We had important business to deal with."

I forced myself to smile at him. "Okay then."

I'll admit, I could be petty sometimes, especially to Mark but it was only out of pure defence for myself and my daughter. I was so happy for Rydel and more than excited for us to finally have a new addition to our family but I partly wished that Mark could have put more effort in when Isabella was born. After all, he was her only grandfather now. She only had him to fall back on and that wasn't much.
