Ross' POV
I laughed in his face. "What do you mean Cal?Have you been drinking? We both know Laura isn't pregnant."
"Do we, Ross? Do we really?"
I furrowed my eyebrows in his direction. "Dude... there's no way. We've been safe-"
"You were safe the first time! And look what happened, Ross!" Calum exclaimed, guiltily looking down at the floor beneath us. "Sorry... that was mean. I love Bella but... you two can't have another kid! It's too soon."
I began to panic. Since Laura gave birth to Isabella we'd both been a lot more careful and taken extra safety precautions to ensure that there wasn't even a tiny chance that she could get pregnant again - not until we were both ready to expand our family at least.
I could feet a heavy layer of sweat forming on my forehead. I wiped it off frantically with the back of my hand and frantically nodded my head at Calum. "Look man, you're right. I need to talk to her. How did you even find out about this?"
"I passed her bag. You know, the black one that she has been taking everywhere lately and literally the thing was sticking out of her bag! A blind man could have seen it, Ross!"
I exhaled deeply and held my hand to my head. "Okay... okay. I'm going to talk to her."
I hurried inside, leaving Calum sat on the table by himself. If Calum had spotted a pregnancy test in her bag then as his best friend it was my job to believe him and find out the truth.
"Ross man! Do you want some chips?" Ratliff called out to me with a smile. He had Rydel under his arm and they were both sharing a soda.
I shook my head at him. "No thanks man. Maybe later."
I continued my search for Laura. The music was pumping and it felt like the walls were caving in around me. "Laura!" I called out.
I was about to ascend the staircase when a heavy hand weighed down my shoulder. I turned around and managed to smile when I realised it was my father. "Is everything okay, Ross?"
"Um yeah, Dad... I'm just looking for Laura." I explained with a flustered shake of my head.
"Oh! I just told her to go and put Isabella down upstairs. She started to cry and ask for Laura so... that's probably where you'll find her."
I quickly thanked him and ran upstairs until I could hear the faint sound of Laura singing a calming melody to Isabella to help her sleep. I quietly opened the bedroom door to the spare bedroom and managed to smile when I saw Laura cradling Isabella back and forth in her arms. She turned when she saw me and grinned. "Hey baby."
"Hey beautiful." I whispered.
"Are you going to come in?" She asked, still rocking Isabella in her embrace.
I was still leant up against the doorframe and I sighed. "No Laur... I just wanted to come and talk to you for a second."
Her face fell into a frown and she laid Isabella down in her crib, she'd finally fallen asleep. "Okay... what's up?"
I threw my hands into the pockets of my jeans and bit my lip awkwardly. "Calum just came onto me and he told me something... something that I really feel confused about."
Laura rolled her eyes. "Did he see me taking his candy bar? I thought he didn't want it so-"
"No Laura, no." I cut her off. I decided to close the bedroom door behind me to block our conversation from everyone else. It was about to become private. "He saw... something in your bag."
Laura's eyes widened and she held her hands to her face. "Oh god... no Ross, I can explain-"
"I thought we were careful!" I hissed in a panicked whisper. "Weren't we?"
Laura began to shake her head violently. "Ross! Of course we are, we always are. Let me explain-"
"Laura we can't have another baby... we can only just take care of Isabella."
"Ross!" She yelled in frustration, holding her hands to her head. "I'm not pregnant!"
I sat down on the side of the double bed and exhaled gently. "So it's not a positive test?"
She sat down beside me, shaking her head slowly back and forth. "Ross listen... I'm not the one who's pregnant."
My eyes widened.
"This isn't my place to tell you someone else's business but I have to now that you've found out... or at least Calum did first."
We both sat in silence for a couple of minutes before Laura placed her hand gently on top of my own. "Ross... I'm not the one who's pregnant... It's Rydel. You're going to be an uncle."
I felt my heart fall into my stomach. I couldn't speak, I couldn't even move. I just kept my eyes fixated on Laura's. "Are you serious?"
Laura nodded, a smile forming on her lips. "Yes... please don't tell anyone until she does though, Ross. I said I'd look after her test for tonight until she was ready to tell Ratliff and everyone else."
"I can't believe we're having another addition to this family." I whispered.
I wanted to cry tears of happiness. I was actually going to become an uncle and better yet Isabella would have a cousin to play with once she got older.
"I promise I won't tell anyone, Laura." I whispered. I held her hands tightly in my own. "I'm so sorry I freaked out about another baby... I just know we aren't ready yet."
Laura nodded her head in agreement with me. "No, no Ross I agree. I want us to raise Isabella first, she's our main priority."
I smiled at her. "Exactly."
"Besides we've got loads of cute future nieces and nephews to look forward to... then we can focus on our future family together." She murmured, running her hands through my hair. "Anyway, I better go and give this test back to Rydel or at least leave it in her bedroom. Keep an eye on Bella for me, will you?"
I nodded at her. "Go ahead babe. I'll keep watch."
And so, with that Laura exited the bedroom and I was left with a feeling of happiness and joy. My best friend and my older sister were expecting their first child and I was soon to become an uncle.
I couldn't have been happier if I'd tried.
