Ross' POV

I awoke with a jolt. The bright lights from above me burned into my exhausted eyes and the sound of heavy footsteps and machines on overdrive buzzed through my ears like an ongoing stampede. I had an oxygen mask on my face and my hands were wired up to various different types of machines, one of which was reading my heart rate. I gulped and frantically scanned the dark room around me, I sighed with relief when I locked eyes with Rydel. I slipped off my oxygen mask and groaned in pain. "Delly?"

"Ross?" Rydel asked in bewilderment. She rushed to my side with tears in her eyes and wrapped her arms tightly around my body. "Oh my god, never leave me again, please!"

I sighed with relief and began to cry. "I won't, I promise. What the hell happened?"

"Honestly I'm not sure." Rydel murmured before taking a seat beside me and clutching my hand in her own. The warmth and love of my older sisters touch instantly soothed me. "You hit your head pretty hard when Courtney pushed you."

I could vaguely remember Courtney slapping me across the face and due to the shock I practically tripped over my own feet and fell backwards into one of the brick walls behind me. "All I remember is seeing darkness." I said truthfully. I couldn't remember anything else except that. "I'm so glad I'm okay though." I added with a weak smile.

"Me too." Rydel murmured. Her brown eyes were sparkling with tears and I frowned at her. She quickly wiped away at her eyes and chucked to herself. "These are just relief tears."

I was about to further question Rydel when a doctor came in with a clipboard in his hand, he looked overjoyed to say the least. "Mr Lynch! It's great to see you awake." He boasted before shaking my hand. "I'm Doctor Green, I've been looking after you for the past few hours. How are you feeling?"

"Is confused an emotion?" I asked with an awkward chuckle.

Doctor Green nodded and pulled a chair up beside my bed. "Of course, it's completely normal to feel confused. You had a pretty serious concussion. I hate to ask, but I've got to, what the hell happened son?"

I sighed and glanced at Rydel who nodded in her head in my direction. She didn't want me to cover for Courtney and truthfully I didn't want to either. The whole situation had been a crazy one to say the least but I had to be honest, I couldn't lie, I was done with all the lies now. "My ex girlfriend..." I began slowly. I watched as Doctor Green's eyes widened. "I broke up with her in school and before I knew it so many people had gathered around to see what the drama was."

"And then...?" He asked.

"Then..." I murmured, having a flashback to when Courtney slapped me across the face. "I suppose she hit me across the face and I fell backwards into one of the brick walls. The next thing I knew I was in complete darkness with the sounds of everyone screaming and shouting in my ears."

Doctor Green pulled out an X-ray of my skull and pointed to the concussion on the side of my head. "It appears the slap caused slight trauma to your skull and the wall only worsened it, therefore making you unconscious."

I nodded. "That makes sense."

"I think we'll keep you in for a day or two, run some more tests and hopefully you can go home to your own bed once you're better."

I shook Doctor Green's hand and smiled. I was grateful. "Thank you Doc, I appreciate your help."

Once he left the room, Rydel slowly stood up from beside me. I furrowed my eyebrows in confusion at her. "Where are you going?" I asked nervously. I hated letting my guard down but I really didn't want to be left alone right now. I felt so vulnerable.
