Laura's POV
The bell for last period rang out through the entire school as I finished writing up the last of my book report on Romeo and Juliet. Troy was sitting across from me with his cellphone in his hands, although I barely knew anything about him I could tell that something was on his mind. He was frowning and seemed exhausted. I placed my pen back into my pencil case and stood up slowly from my chair. "Troy, are you coming to gym?" I asked with an awkward smile with my books pressed closely to my chest.
He looked up slowly and his ocean blue eyes locked with mine. He placed his cellphone back into his pocket and nodded his head at me. "Of course I am!" He chuckled as he joined me in one of the many hallways. "Sorry, I didn't even realise that the bell had rung."
I smiled. "It's okay. Is everything okay with you? You seemed kind of distracted back there."
Troy sighed and ran a hand through his messy dark hair. "Ah, it's nothing really. It's just my ex girlfriend, she keeps asking for permission to see our little guy all the time."
I frowned at him but before I could question him any further about his problems and what had been going on in his personal life I was pulled aside by Rydel who held a picture of a chicken in her hand. "Rydel, what the hell?" I asked as Troy stopped beside me.
"Hey I'm Rydel! I'm Laura's sister in law, kind of, in another universe at least." Rydel said enthusiastically as she shook Troy's hand in her own. Then she turned back to me and pressed the picture of the chicken into the palm of my hand. "Laura I need your advice on something."
Troy and I stared down at the picture with awkward expressions. "Advice?" I asked in a confused tone as Rydel nodded her head. "Advice... on a chicken?"
"Not just any chicken, Laur!" She hissed as she pulled me and Troy to the side. "Bob, Ratliff's chicken, remember?"
Troy chuckled and held his rucksack tightly on his shoulder. "There's a chicken called Bob in this family of yours too?"
I rolled my eyes at him in a playful manner and quickly turned my attention back to Rydel who was inquisitively glaring at the both of us. "Anyway..." she joked as she pressed her index finger to the picture of the chicken. "I'm going to a farm today to get a new Bob."
"A farm? Today?" I repeated with a confused look as I handed the picture back to her. The three of us began to walk back down the now quiet hallways together once more and I couldn't help but wonder why she had even told me about her little plan. "And you've told me... because?"
"Because Laur, I'm taking you with me." She said confidently as we came to an abrupt halt outside of our gym class. I could see Ross, Raini and Calum from where I was stood, the three of them were talking amongst themselves. A part of me prayed they hadn't seen us, not yet at least. "Think of it as a girls day out, you can even bring Bella if you want to!"
Troy chuckled from beside me and gestured to Rydel with a smile. "That sounds like an awesome idea, Laura. You should definitely take Rydel up on it."
"See!" Rydel excitedly said with a grin in Troy's direction. She held her finger up to her face and frowned at him. "Crap, I'm sorry, what's your name again?"
Troy held out his hand and chuckled once more. "I don't believe I had the chance to tell you my name. I'm Troy-"
Before Troy could finish his sentence, a heavy hand on my shoulder caused me to turn around in shock, it was Ross. He wore a smirk on his lips as he continued Troy's sentence. "He's Troy and he's trying out for the team, right man?"
Rydel clapped her hands together excitedly like a little school girl. "No way! That's awesome! Trust me, Ross knows exactly how to get a guy into the soccer team."
