Laura's POV
I slammed my foot down on the break with adrenaline running through my veins as my father's banged up old car came to an abrupt halt outside of what I assumed to be Jesse's house. "Are you sure he lives here Trisha?" I asked in a demanding tone before opening the car door and pushing one foot out onto the gravel beneath me.
Trisha followed sheepishly behind me with her arms wrapped tightly around her waist. "I... I think so."
Without another second to lose I opened the stiff steel gate to the small worn out house in front of me and stepped forward cautiously to the front door. I repeatedly threw my fist against the glass window on the front door and waited as the sound of heavy footsteps came bounding down the staircase. "Jesse! I know you're in there!" I yelled as I continued to hit the glass window in frustration. "I'll call the police if you don't give Bella back to me right this second!"
"Laura... don't threaten him. We don't know what he's capable of." Trisha whispered into my ear with a worried expression on her face.
I raised my eyebrows at her slightly before realising that she could, in fact, be right. I hadn't spoken or known Jesse since he moved away all those years ago, neither of us knew him that well in order to have an understanding of what he's capable of or why the hell he decided to take my daughter whilst Ross was away on his world tour. "Okay." I bluntly said as I whipped my phone out from my back pocket. I dialled in my mom's phone number and stared up at one of the bedroom windows with narrow eyes. "Mom? It's Laura. I need your help."
Within minutes my mom arrived in her car and didn't hesitate to run at full speed towards Jesse's front door. "Girls, stand back." She instructed before kicking her leg up and breaking down his front door. "Jesse! It's Ellen Marano! Hand my granddaughter over to me or I'll be forced to call the police."
The three of us quickly scurried inside. Trisha stood back from my mom and I with an anxious expression on her face as the both of us ran off in different directions throughout Jesse's house. "Jesse!" I screamed at the top of my lungs. I was done playing his childish little game. I wanted my daughter back and I wanted her back now. "Jesse! I swear to god when I find you-"
"Laura."
I stopped dead in my tracks and turned slowly on my heel to face the darkness of one of the upstairs bedrooms. Jesse was stood before me, holding Isabella tightly in his embrace. I could see tears streaming down his face and his hands began to quiver. It was as if for the first time he realised what he'd done and that he was definitely in the wrong. "Put her down." I whispered with my fists clenched by my side. He kept crying and shaking with his arms still wrapped around her fragile little body. I gritted my teeth and took a step closer to him. "I said... put... her... down."
"I... I just wanted to see what it was like." He whispered. The sharp sound of his breath sent shivers down my spine as his crystal green eyes continued to fill up with tears. "I loved you Laura. I really, really fucking loved you."
I flinched at his words and felt my body tense up in fear. I was no longer scared for myself though, I was scared for my daughter. I didn't answer him, I just kept watching Isabella with wide eyes, making sure he didn't pull any swift moves without my knowledge. "And then I come home... to find this." He spat in disgust, staring down at Isabella in fury. "The one time I truly thought that I had a shot with a girl who was higher than me in this small and shitty town of ours... but then she turns out to have a baby with some pathetic high school jock who can't keep it in his pants."
