Fate can be Fatal

Part 25: Cheryl, Fangs and Kevin

On their drive home, new friends, Cheryl and Fangs chat about the recent incident at school.

"Cheryl can I ask you something" approaches Fangs.

"Go ahead" she says, firmly keeping an eye on the road.

"How did you know you liked Toni? Like enough to ask her out?" Fangs stutters.

"Honestly I'm not sure how it became official, it just did. I knew I liked her after one night in her trailer. It was one of my first times there and we stayed up chatting outside on some chairs all night. We just laughed and drank the whole night. I think from then on I was just like, yup I'm hooked" - she laughs, wondering why Fangs would ask such a question, knowing full well he wasn't the romantic type. 

"Why's that Fangs?" she says, her inner thoughts becoming outer.

"Well, look---you can't tell anyone else yet. Me and Kevin have been spending more time together and I really like him, and I wanna ask him out--- I just don't know how to approach it" he explains to Cheryl.

The rest of the journey back to the trailerpark, Cheryl gives her nervous friend a talk, along with some good advice and drops him home, "However you ask, it'll go great" she tells him, "Thanks Cheryl" he says and gets out the car, "I'll catch you later".

Later in the day, Cheryl calls up Fangs, wondering if he's finalised any plans. 

"Well, I just called him, we're meeting at Pop's for food and i'll do it after, I'll call you later, I've gotta go" he says nervously, "Good luck" Cheryl replies, hang up the phone after a quick call. 

Cheryl finishes up on some homework in the trailer before calling up Betty, asking to hang out. Betty suggest Pops and before Cheryl could change her mind, she hangs up.

Knowing Fangs and Kevins plans, she's reluctant but goes anyway, hoping to drag Betty away. 

About half an hour later, Cheryl meets Betty by the parking lot of Pops and they head in. Cheryl peers into the windows, to check if the boys are in there, and to her disapointment they are. 

She attempts to keep Betty distracted by talking about the upcoming Mayor vote, something Betty was really fixated on at the moment. However, she catches the eye of Kevin and walks over, surprised that the two boys are sat together. 

Cheryl and Fangs exchange looks, but it's hopeless to try and drag Betty away. 

"Guys! What are you both doing here?" she asks and stands above them.

"Just getting some food" Fangs says, trying to tell Cheryl to pull her away. 

"Betty lets go order" but she doesn't listen to Cheryls plea.

"We were just about to leave" Kevin says, looking at Fangs, confused.

"Mind if we join?" she says, "No!-----" Cheryl blurts out, "I mean, Betty we have to go somewhere, see you guys later" and manages to get Betty outside.

"What the fuck Cheryl?" Betty tells her frustrated friend, "Christ Betty, get in the car, lets go to the Wyrm" Cheryl defends herself, "Let me explain"

After a ten minute drive, Cheryl is finally finished with the long story about Fangs and Kevin, "See, thats why I pulled you away" she says.

"Oh shit, that could've----been worse though" Betty chuckles.

They make it to the Wyrm and take a seat in their usual spot. They carry on their chats for about an hour until Fangs arrives, looking happier than usual.

"Go good?" Cheryl asks, "Went so good" Fangs replies, hugging his friend, "Thanks for the advice"

Soon after, Toni arrives, also looking happy. She walks up to Cheryl, grabs her face and kisses her. "Thats my girl" she yells.

The rest of the gang sit there in confusion, "Babe, someone told me--- you punched a homophobic prick at school earlier today" and they finally understand what she means.

"It was nothing" Cheryl replies, but looks very proud of herself. "Nothing? Thats the best thing I've heard today, this week even" 

"Actually guys, I have some other news" Cheryl stands up, and they all listen in. "Over the past few weeks, even before you got me the bike for my birthday, I've been trying to get my lisense and today I got it" and holds it up in the air, and the gang cheers to her achievement. 

"Omg, Yes!!" Toni emphasis, "finally get to see you on that"

Pea goes to make a crude joke but is stopped by Fangs, who still hasn't told anyone about him and Kevin being official yet but is desperately wanting too.

"Actually guys I have news too" and stands up, "Well---- me and Kevin are together, like actually together" and from the smiles on the gangs faces, he could tell it was going to all be fine...
